Great post and inquiry. I can't resist posting. I do a lot of travel photography, ranging from daily walks around town (never leave home without your camera!), local hikes, more casual travel and serious/professional remote photoshoots. The decision isn't just the lens kit but the bag, in fact, I find the bag/case decision to be more critical and often determines my lens selection. I have four LowePro bags that I use depending on the amount of time I will be one my feet, photo and non-photo gear requirements (see list below). I only travel with one body but at some point I might try using two bodies simultaneously to avoid regular lens changes and will need a different bag to pull that off if traveling.LENS KITS Daytime around town (1 lens w/ Rezo or Slingshot): -24-105mm f/4L ISNighttime around town (1 lens w/ Rezo): -50mm f/1.4Daytime around town, casual walk or running errons (2 lenses w/ Slingshot or Fastpack): -24-105mm f/4L IS -16-35mm f/2.8LDaytime around town, more serious with frequent lens changes (2 lenses w/ Slingshot or Fastpack): -70-200mm f/4L IS -16-35mm f/2.8LDaytime around town, more serious with frequent lens changes (3 lenses w/ Slingshot or Fastpack): -70-200mm f/4L IS -16-35mm f/2.8L -LensBaby 3G or one of my Canon primes -Gitzo TripodMain travel kit, such as 30 days in Europe (3 lenses w/ Slingshot or Fastpack): -24-105mm f/4L IS -16-35mm f/2.8L -50mm f/1.4 -Gitzo TripodVideo kit (5 lenses w/ Slingshot or CompuTrekker): -16-35mm f/2.8L -Nikon 50mm f/1.4 -Nikon 55mm f/3.5 micro -Nikon 105mm f/2.5 -LensBaby 3G -Gitzo Tripod with video headArchitectural Photoshoots (3 lenses w/ CompuTrekker) -Sigma 12-24mm -16-35mm f/2.8L -70-200mm f/4L IS -Gitzo TripodFashion/Dance Photoshoots (6 lenses w/ CompuTrekker) -16-35mm f/2.8L -24-105mm f/4L IS -70-200mm f/4L IS -50mm f/1.4 -85mm f/1.8 -100mm f/2.8 -flashes -Gitzo TripodCAMER BAGS LowePro-Rezo TLZ 20: Single lens only, mostly 50mm with lens hood out or 24-105 with lens hood turned in. This is my night on the town bag.-Slingshot 200AW: A must have bag, will hold camera with any lens mounted, although requires reconfiguration for the 70-200, plus lots of stuff. Easy access and excellent except there's no reasonable way to mount a tripod and if you carry to much heavy stuff (extra lenses) then you will regret it with the one shoulder strap.-Fastpack 200: For light travel this bag is remarkable. This bag was flawless during 30 days in Europe and is by far my favorite bag. I added a chest strap to keep the shoulder straps from under my arms and that was a much needed improvement. The extra flap allows you to roll up a coat or fit a tripod, preferable one as light and compact as the Gitzo GT1550T (worth every penny and a better investment than just about any upgrade/purchase). The upper compartment has plenty of room for snacks, guide book, umbrella and water bottle if you don't want it in the external mesh pouch.-CompuTrekker Plus AW: All my gear, including tripod and two 580II flashes fit in this pack. With my 15" MacBook Pro and back up HDs I have everything I need. It weighs in at 55 pounds when fully loaded but once all buckled in I have no problem carrying the weight even though I only weigh 140lbs. The best bag I've found except the external tripod set up just doesn't work for me and I would really like some extra compression straps to hold jackets or stands.Cheers, Chad

Developing countries and travel dictate rugged pro gear. L Lenses to go with the 1DS would be 16-35 2.8L, 24-105 f4L, 70-200 f2.8L IS. Throw in a 1.4 extender and a 580EXII and you have it and it all fits in a ThinkTank Pro Urban Disguise 40 and you still have room for cleaning gear, spare cards and a digital storage device (assuming no laptop). -- Photography at the speed of sound.
