Who needs RF extenders?

Tim 6789

I did try out Adobe Super Resolution when it came out a couple of years ago, but I had little use for out to be honest. Out of curiosity I tried it again recently on some images taken on my R6 with the RF100-400. I was quite surprised by the quality of the 80mpix image, although I still have no real use for it. Then I thought - how would it work in place of the 1.4 and 2.0 extenders ($1100 or £1300 in the UK!) I took this picture of a black headed gull recently, and thought I would try replicating the effect of the extenders, using Super Resolution. So image #1.0 is the bare lens at 400mm. Image #1.4 mimics the 1.4, and #2.0 mimics the 2.0 extender. All are shown at the same resolution as the bare lens.I don't think they are at all bad, and when you think of the price of the extenders, and the impact on the maximum aperture, it looks very good to me. I know that there is a genuine use for extenders with other lenses (super telephotos and possibly the 100-500) but for my purposes and with this lens as my only RF telephoto, I am very happy.#1.0#1.4#2.0y happy.
