Sensor Cleaning

I took my camera in for sensor cleaning and got it back with this dark vignette around the corners. I thought it was cleaning fluid, so returned to Canon to ask them to clean it again. They insisted it was not a dirty sensor, but could not give me an reasonable explanation. Has anyone else experienced this vignetting problem before?

ausvrouwrote:Has anyone else experienced this vignetting problem before? Not exactly the same, but there are a few possible explanations I can think of. Do you see the same level of vignetting in that one corner regardless of the aperture used (dirt should only become more defined, but not darker overall when stopped down). With a TSE lens (one where you can shift the image circle) it is possible to have stronger vignetting on one edge of the sensor - so I wonder whether the lens you are using has come out of alignment (I doubt the reverse - the sensor coming out of alignment - is possible through a cleaning)... do other lenses have the same problem? If it really is dirt, your best bet is to pick up the eclipse cleaning fluid, some pec pads, and wet clean the sensor yourself. I don't much care for the procedure myself (at least on the 550D, I seem to add as much dirt as I remove!), but sometimes to get it done right...

My 15-85 does show some vignetting at 85mm even with Peripheral Illumination correction enabled. It's not unusual. I had a friend who had to return his first 15-85 as the vignetting was excessive.

The lens was the 17-85mm. I thought it might be the lens, so also tried my 70-300mm and had the same result. Thanks, I will re-try both lenses and see the result.

Interesting about the alignment. I have not seen this vignetting before I had thesensor cleaned. At first it seemed to be on all four corners. I then switched thecamera on and off a few times and I thought it looked a little better, but the one spot, top left corner, won't go away and it is more like a "shading" than a dark vignette. I will play around with a few lenses to see if I can see any changes. Thanks for all your help

Was the aperture used really f5.6? The dust spots seem surprisingly well defind for such a 'wide' aperture.
