I found the 450D/Xsi quite a decent upgrade from the 400D.The 450D has a truly excellent sensor, live view, bigger LCD sensor cleaning etc.Go for it. Great cam.Ronnie Hwrote:Need some imput !! Besides for macro and on tripod, I don't use live view. It is harder to hold it steady when I try to use it like a P&S. Another thing is my old eyes, without glasses, can't see the screen any way. (This is why I only bought P&S once.).SD cards direct download to my lap-top,,CF cards have to use readerI always have the fear of bending the CF card connector pins while insert the card. So I normally use the USB port and download files directly from the camera. No need for video,,just want good IQ pics,,I am not a pro..so newer models do NOT interest me.Tight budget, sence i retired so looking to Buy & Sell used...That is a good strategy. I bought my XSi used (eBay) last June.I have looked at side by side guide,,but user use is more helpful??XSi has more and better features than XTi but whether they translate into real gain is mostly personal thing. If you are deciding on whether to buy XSi or T1i, I would recommend XTi. But for upgrade, I don't have a definite opinion. Thanks for shareing any info....Ron

You can get a CF converter if you'd like. You slide SD cards into it and place the CF converter into your camera. I got mine a while back off amazon if I remember correctly.i started with the Xsi and still have it and use it. I really do love this camera. The button layout is nice. I find ISO 1600 to be very nice. I am not sure how much the improvements will mean to you. --Darkness is the monster and your shutter is your sword, aperture your shield and iso your armor. Strike fast with your sword and defend well with your shield and hope your armor holds up.

Live view is not just a gimmick. You can shoot tethered with both Canon & 3rd party applications. Also for landscape work, manual focus or contrast detect AF is more precise. I had thought about an Xsi, but ended up with a used T2i because I wanted video. It still is pretty tempting to get an Xsi body though as they can be found for ~$300Have fun -- 'A bad idea in search of a good cause is.. just a bad idea' ... me

People often seem to think liveview is a gimmick until they actually use it.I use it all the time now. It's brilliant for critical composition and focusdswcamerawrote:Live view is not just a gimmick. I had both XTi and XSi. XTi compare very poorly against 450d XSi.Viewfinder Superiority:XSi has much BIGGER0.87xViewfinder, where as XTi has a ridiculous tunnel like0.80xviewfinder. The worst of all canon dslr. For comparison, my 30d has0.90xviewfinder, so XSi is very close to my old 30dShorter Viewfinder Blackout:XTi has slow170ms VF blackout. XSi enjoy a much improved faster130ms VF Blackout(the same as 500d, 550d, 600d)Shutter Durabilit:XSi shutter is designed to withstand 100,000 actuation. XTi is only rated at 50,000Improved AF:I notice this immediately. My XSi's entire 9 AF point is reliable, where as my XTi is only reliable in Center AF, the rest 8 AF often failed to pickup. You can find evidence for this on page 3 of DPR review here:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos450d/page3.aspImproved 9-point AF systemCanon is claiming the AF system has been revised in the XSi / 450D. Certainly the AF chip appears to be different to the one we showed in the 400D review.bigdaddavewrote:People often seem to think liveview is a gimmick until they actually use it. The problem is thatmost people don't know how to engage live view correctly1. Custom Function and change LiveView to CDAFLive Mode, avoid PDAFquick modewhich blacks out LCD before taking photo2. While Live Mode is slower, it is the most accurate. LCD never blacks out, and you slowly fine tune your focusing until you achieve 100% accuracy3. don't forget you canmagnify 10X and 5xby hitting [ +- ] blue button on upper right4. you can alsoengageAuto Focusin Live View by hitting [ * ] button. Unfortunately, canon's illogical AF placement confused most people. Both Canon XSi and T2i can AF in LiveView. XSi focus by hitting the [ * ] button, while newer 550d/T2i focus by hitting the usual SHUTTER5. You can move the square [ ] focus box by D-pad. I didn't realized this until much later. You can fine tune your focus point by aligning [ ] focus box to the exact point of focusI don't have a dedicated Macro lens. I used my SIGMA 18-50mm f/2.8 MACRO. Nonetheless, I'm really impressed by what LiveView can accomplished
