Tell me about the AF an image quality on T3i

distracted

I am looking to pick up a crop body...mostly for travel and kids sports. Thinking of pairing it with the 70-300 for baseball season.I currently have the 5d2, 50 1.8, 24-105 and 135 f2. 5d2 is a great studio/portrait/landscape camera, but I do not love it for action/sports. Too many misses with less than stellar AF.With the T3i being an entry level camera how would you rate AF compared to 5d2? Image quality also?BE

Image quality also?Rebel line will autofocus no better than the 5d2 and many would argue that it would not autofocus as well. You need an upgrade to your lens, not your camera. If you want to shoot sports, then you need a sports lens. Most lenses with USM focus will work nicely. A 70-200 f/4 L would do great for outdoor daylight sports. A 100-400 f/5.6 L would do better with even more reach. With all that said, the T3i with the appropriate lens is very capable of sports photography. Here's some examples posted on this forum:http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=37962852http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=37862349

You might be better off with some longer and faster lens(es). Realize that all the cameras used in sports action before DSLR's were about the same as your current camera, yet sport action shots were done well with the equipment used then. The 7D is designed for sports action, but I'd take the time to learn your camera before you jump ship or add an additional camera.

The 7D is designed for sports action,I didn't realize the examples I posted were from the 7D as they were on the rebel forum. Anyway the key to those pictures is the lens, not the camera.
