Can anyone help,A famiily member has the Canon 400D, it has been working fine but now, without any obvious cause, it refuses to focus in PMAS modes - you can fire the camera but the shutter stays open for ages as though it is in bulb mode.It works fine in Auto mode.He has tried re-setting to the factory settings, has anyone come across this sort of thing before, any help would be appreciated.thanks in advance.

I'm betting it won't autofocus because the custom function has moved AF activation to the rear * button. See C.Fn-4, p. 104 of the instruction manual. Reset that custom function to 0.What sounds like the shutter staying open is probably Mirror Lock Up has been set (C.Fn-7, p. 105). First press of the shutter flips the mirror up, but need to press again for the shutter to work. If there is no 2nd press of the shutter it times out after 30 seconds and drops the mirror without taking the picture. Reset that custom function to 0.The custom functions are only active in the "creative zone" exposure modes - P, Av, Tv, M, and A-DEP.normsmithwrote:Can anyone help,A famiily member has the Canon 400D, it has been working fine but now, without any obvious cause, it refuses to focus in PMAS modes - you can fire the camera but the shutter stays open for ages as though it is in bulb mode.It works fine in Auto mode.He has tried re-setting to the factory settings, has anyone come across this sort of thing before, any help would be appreciated.thanks in advance.
