Lee filters

Happy_Snapper

These have been recommended to me by numerous Pro photographers, along with a piece of useful advice/tip:Instead of buying the Lee holder, just use Bluetak to hold the filter hard against the lens! apparently it's totally secure and much quicker to setup/adjust in the field (plus it saves having to buy a Lee filter holder...) I guess this cuts out the possibility of vignetting as well?Does anyone else know of this? Use it successfully? Any other handy tips for these filters?Which ones would you buy for starters (thinking ND filters at this point...)?cheers

Interesting idea, I've seen people do this or even just holding them by hand.Couple of problems with it, first it might be hard to make fine adjustments with the placement of the filter, you also could not stack ND filters and a polariser. To me it seems strange to spend all that money on expensive filters such as Lee and then cut back on the holder (nearly the cheapest part if you buy a set of ND filters). It is like buying expensive super tele lens and sticking it on a cheap tripod.I started with basic cokin filters but they got scratched very easily and also did not work very well on the 5D. The Lee filters are excellent, optically a big step up from the Corkin. I have both hard and soft ND sets, seem to use the hard more often but the soft are easier to get started with.John
