Dog action - puller and XF 90
mike lix
Hi,the weather is getting better here, so I finally went out to shoot some dog action.I decided to try out the electronic shutter (as I usually only use the mechanical shutter) and I must say I was a bit underwhelmed by the AF performance in connection with the ES. I know, this is an extremely fast action and the 90/2 has quite unforgiving depth of field wide open, but I feel I usually have much better AF precision when using the MS. Well, at least I have something new to investigate.OK, let´s forget about the AF precision for a while and here are some of the moments I captured that I quite like. Hope you like them too.mikef/2.8-4 for more dof would have been better here, but I still love this capture

These are great! I like the whimsical and funny mood and love the color. Thanks for sharing 👍

These are excellent. Tons of personality in each shot but the second might be my personal favorite.

Great photos, but why can't I get this quality of photos of running dogs with my Fuji? I get less than 1/2 of my images in proper focus. I have to use my Canon gear...Which settings did you use?Thank you

Would you reveal how you setup your AF?AF-C, zone / wide, custom settings? Now, off to find some dog owners in my area who want to participate

You have got skills, irrespective of what shutter you use. I am personally not sure how those pictures could be in anyway improved.

Surely the camera Exif data has been altered from a Nxxxx, Cxxxx or Sxxx?Well, seriously, it just proves that understanding, training and practice are the essentials of high performance and sharp images of challenging, moving subjects. Mike is an expert - always delivers!

It is the 20 fps that causes trouble. Today I tried the ES both with 10 fps and 20 fps and those 10 fps are far better. This is a typical result I am used to with my usual settings. These are sooc jpgs taken today with the ES at 10 fps:

Even with the X-T2 I had at least like 2 sharp photos out of 3.I´m used to MS from the X-T2 (and I like the clicking of the MS), but I must admit it´s much easier to follow the action with the ES. And the rolling shutter seems not to be an issue.
