New to Fuji X100V - Exposure Compensation Question/Poll

pekored

I have had my X100V for a little over a month and I just love it. I am finding that I need to use a positive exposure compensation most of the time. I do not find it a defect at all and with my Nikon I need a consistent negative comp.I realize that this is a highly subjective question and there are so many variables, but I would like to know your experience. What compensation do you feel you use the majority of the time for your Fuji X camera? Thanks for participating!

It depends on metering option you are using. I have EC set to “C” and fiddle with exposure compensation on most shots, but in “Multi” mode (which is all I use) I don’t see the need for consistent positive compensation (and I’m a RAW shooter exclusively). The other metering options, however, such as “Center Weighted”, will indeed often require significant positive compensation.Oh, and you will probably want to use DR100 if you are a RAW shooter, DR200 and DR400 will underexpose (or underISO) your RAWs by -1 and -2 stops respectively.

Usually anywhere between 0 and -2/3

Thanks for participating! If you’re referring to jpegs try adjusting your shadows to -1I shoot JPEGs with the X100V and this is what I do. EV at zero, usually, with shadows lifted. The exception is when I use Classic Neg; I often overexpose that on purpose, because I like the way it looks.

I’m in south Florida. Marked lighting differences. Use multi metering. Ride the ec front dial frequently. Don’t know what positive ec looks like. Never found a need to employ it. As I prefer lifting shadows, I can go quite hard with negative comp. Some of my better results come with this approach.

In someplace like WY for example where I plan on spending time this summer, the EC will probably be set to 0.

Clipped or burnt highlights are my personal least favorite mistake, plus I like a slightly "denser" image, so -1/3 for me as a default.

I use EC constantly and almost never take a photo at 0 EV. +1 to +1.3 would be my most common exposure with an occasional +1.7. I do keep my metering set to center weighted which is a factor. I never have a use for the JPEGs and only save raw files.  Same for both my X-T2 and X-T4.
