New lens Fujinon XF 35mm 1.4 - Grain inside

patryx

Hello to all. I received my brand new lens Fujinon xf 35 mm 1.4 lens. But as you can see in attached pictures, there is grain of dust or something inside between elements. What do you think, have I return back lens to shop and complain about it or keep it and do not observe mess inside? I know that it is only small pc of grain, but I paid 600 euros for lens... Thank you for your help.

I had a small dot sort of like that on the inside of the rear element of my 18-55 zoom, and it rendered a spot on the sensor.I thought it was a sensor spot, cleaned sensor multiple times, then when I put the 18-55 back on the camera the spot was still there.  I changed the lens and the spot was gone.  Then I found that little dot of junk on the inside surface of the rear element of the 18-55.After this, the lens was useless to me.  I put it away in a drawer for two years.  I checked it after two years and the little spot was gone.  All better now.  Not too long after this I sold off the lens but all my tests showed no spot would come back regardless of how I might shake it or roll it around etc.  I told this all to the buyer.  They had no trouble with it either, so far as I know. So, if you can just put it in a drawer for a couple years the little dot of stuff might be gone when you look again.  Otherwise, I wouldn't tolerate it and would return the lens asap.On the other hand, maybe the little dot does not show up in your images.  It is not the same as the 18-55 zoom after all.

I would not return it. Dust inside lenses is normal. Even brand new ones.

Don't panic ! Just shoot a strongly retro light frame and see if the grain of dust causes some diffraction I bet it wontAs other stated even if you can expect a clean one, nevertheless especially this lens which is not WR will catch dust after some timeSo if no visible effect such as diffraction appears just keep it

I would check carefully if this dust can appear on pictures when stopped down but it's very unlikely. Then be sure you have a good, well centered sample. If this is okay, I would kept. Almost all lenses get some dust over time and the Fuji 35mm pumps like a zoom. Mine is still quite clean but I often brush the external barrel to avoid dust to enter inside. It's frustrating but it's better to have a good sample with a tiny psychological defect than a decentered or defective glass, which can happen too...

Just send it back for an exchange.

my brand new 27 2.8 had a speck of dust in it when I got it, but I got it for 250...not 600. For 600, I'd probably actually get an exchange.I've had even bigger specks of dust in lenses before, and they did not effect the image quality... now if that dust turns to fungus...that's another story.Only had one lens ever that had fungus in it, and that was an old Nikon 50mm 1.4 AF-D.
