Thinking in dying myself my M9P leather
Foskito
I was thinking of changing the leather color of my M9-P, maybe to a darker brown tone, so instead of sending the camera out and paying a fortune, I could do it myself with some brown dyes from my baseball gloves I could use... what's the worst it could happen?I wonder if someone has done a similar process by themselves and what the results were.Have a great weekend!

I, that means just me, would order a new set of leather/Vulcanite and install it instead of trying to remove, dye it and reinstall. But, again, it’s your camera.

I imagine the worst thing that could happen is that it would look terrible and you’d have to strip off the leather and replace it - or pay someone to do so. Before starting, I would want to make sure that the leather dye wouldn’t permanently stain the satin chrome if I accidentally got some on it.Personally, I wouldn’t do it because I think it looks rather smart as it is…

Most leather used on cameras has some form of protective coating so the dye may not be absorbed evenly. It is finished leather not raw leather.3. It could seriously reduce the value of the camera.Personally I think the suggestion to remove the existing covering and use replacement cut leather is the simplest. Camera Leather, Hugo Studio, Aki-Asahi all will be able to supply replacement in many colors and types of leather.

Do it!!Honestly though my guess is the leather wouldn't take the dye. It would be like trying to re-stain your car leather seats.Way to much coating on it to dye it.One way to find out though

Hello guys,Well... I thought about what you mentioned and yes, I am more worried about damaging the chrome finish than the actual leather, and its value will be compromised for sure; I bought it directly at Leica Wetzlar customer service and I picked that leather “a-la-carte”. Not my best idea and probably something will go wrong.I guess I will leave it as is!
