Nitecore USB charger for Q2 battery

Truman Prevatt

I picked up a travel charger for my Q2M battery.  It is the Nitecore designed for the battery.  I have used Nitecore on my Fujifilm camera batteries with great success.  But the one I have for the Leica is pretty flakey.  It doesn't reliability work - almost like the contacts are not making a good connection.  Sometimes if I slip it in "just right" it will charge.  More often than no - it won't even read the battery voltage.Has anyone else tired this unit and had better luck with it. I don't know if it is a bad design or just a bad unit. Thanks

I contacted Nitecore and was told……”sorry, it’s no longer under warranty”. That was the end of Nitecore for me.

mine does the same "hit or miss" thing when I put a battery in it. Sometimes I have to pop it back out and reseat it, then I'm good to go. Sounds like it is just a quirk as I have other nitecore chargers that don't act this way. So long story short - yours (and mine) appear to be operating "normally".

The only Nitecore charger I own is for my Sony cameras. It also had poor contacts that meant I had to be very sure that the battery was properly seated otherwise it wouldn't charge. It packed up working completely after about 8 months. That was four months ago and I am still waiting for a replacement.Strangely, I have several other third party battery chargers from much cheaper brands and I have never had a problem with any of them.

I have Nitecore chargers for both my CL and Q2 and they both work without any issue every time I use them.

Same here. Works extremely well and is always in my bag. I’m barely using the original AC charger.Highly recommended

I use nitecore for Q2, M10-R and Fuji batteries. They are reliable, and get the job done every time. No issue.

I gave up carrying the Nitecore chargers for my Q2/Q2M. I could not trust them to consistently charge, and I was never sure if they recharged all the way to 100%. Thinking one older battery was dead, I replaced it @ $285. Then I successfully recharged the old battery up to 100%—with the Leica charger. So, if you are going to really depend on a single charger while out and about, stick with Leica's OEM unit. Buy a shorter cord or a stubby plug for it, if that suits your kit. I wish there was a cheaperreliablesmall alternate charger for Leica's battery, but Nitecore ain't it.

It's a shame that Nitecore's QC would appear to be flakey: mine are 100% reliable but others have chargers that fail. It's also a shame that Leica's charger does not use a USB connector rather than a country-specific plug. If you travel internationally then the USB connection saves a lot of hassle as many hotels have USB ports in their rooms. The nice thing about the Nitecore chargers is they show voltage rather than the binary light on or off you get with the Leica charger.Maybe Leica needs to up their game and introduce a charger with a USB interface, a voltage indicator, and make it more compact and light. After all, if you're paying over $5,000 for your camera shouldn't you have a better charger to go with it?Or maybe just build the charging setup in the camera...

I pulled the battery and after a reset and was careful to make sure it locked into place - still nothing.  Then with a a push from the bottom it made connection and charged.  The battery does not seem to seat well in the Nitecore charger and then does not make good contact to active the terminals.  It reminds me of the old vacuum tube television sets of the 1960's.  To get them to work right one had to slap them on the side it just the right place with just the right amount of the force and bingo - a perfect picture.  Other times it was rolling and noisy.Sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't.  However, one cannot depend on it.  The Leica charger is large, and requires 110 V but it works every time.  Alas my truck has a 110 outlet so I guess I'll just start carrying the Leica charger.

It can be done, but like resetting the microwave clock at daylight savings, I am not sure how exactly I am doing it.Your AC charger should be multi-voltage.What I find highly annoying is that there is no cheaper solution out there, the utterly awful original charger costs the equivalent of a really good used mountain bike here in Noo Zeald 🤔

Agree on battery loading, the Q2 battery seems to be finicky. You always have to wait a few seconds to see if the display shows it’s charging.

The Nitecore Q2 charger I have is exactly the same - I often have to seat the battery in the charger two or three times before it starts charging correctly. It does this with both of the Q2 batteries I have.

Le Chef

You have to introduce the battery at about a 30 degree angle from the horizontal and find the groove that runs down the sides of the battery. Once you slide it forward towards the contacts you can angle it to the horizontal and it will then follow the groove and you can feel the battery click into place. If it's not showing as charging then repeat. Not hard to do.
