Leica M11 update

Hi guys,a while back towards the end of December, I posted a thread on the fact that my M11 froze. It was when I put it in my bag without turning it off, the shutter button got pressed and the camera took a couple hundred pictures. When I tried to use it, the back LED button was on and the camera was frozen. I had to take off the battery and restart without the lens, then the camera worked. I believe many people answered my thread and some were very critical of the camera. Many stated that the M1 is a faulty design and many cameras are freezing and even dying. That said, I’d like to update you and set the record straight. I have had camera since October and I’ve had the freezing once. That time was a special case since I left the camera on and the shutter got depressed in the bag. Since then I haven’t had one hiccup. In fact, I have had the camera with me, in multiple instances, in -12 to -20 Celsius and the camera worked flawlessly. Some people claimed in my last thread that SD cards were the culprit and many mentioned the Sony Tough card. As a matter of fact this is the card I use and no issues (knock on wood).I just wanted to put it out there to state that the M11 could be a great camera, I enjoy it a lot. So if you’re thinking of one, I highly recommend it!Be well and shoot well.E.

I had a similar experience to you. Overall happy with the camera.I have a soft release on the camera that causes it to be often pressed accidentally, maybe I will take it off.Happy shooting...summilux 35

I had the same issue. I bought it early Jan, reported my issues and were met with a flurry of negative people saying the camera was defective. Post FW 1.6 and formatting my cards and internal memory, I haven’t had one freeze since.

Actually, my M10 was much worse. I had to swap it for a Q2 at some point because it kept on freezing. The M11 has been really consistent!

Chalk the issue as operator error and enjoy great photos. The number of freeze ups and problems has been well within the normal electronic roll out for “issues”. No one wants to spend their money and have an issue - but they happen. The highest incidence of all new electronic (or even cars)problems is in the initial new-product roll-out Once bugs are found and worked out in firmware/software tweaks - everything smooths out quickly as it did with the M11.It's just my educated opinion. Don't get bent out of shape. Steve

Fw 1.6 didn't solve the freeze problem, at least for most users (and for me). 1.6.1 is soon available, let's hope...

They haven't fixed everything in firmware they can yet.

But I had the "chance" to experiment 4 different M11, all of them with freeze issues. mine is going back to Wetzlar in a couple of days...
