Hand Held High Res - Brief Post
NowHearThis
Finally had some sun for a couple of hours and I tried out a couple of the hand held high res modes on my new EM1.3. Now I say a couple of modes because the EM1.3 can either make 50mp images or 25mp images. The images I took weren't Pulitzer's (so I'm not going to post those) but just looking at the SOOC Jpegs with 0 editing it was obvious to see the 50mp images will benefit from some post-processing work, but the 25mp image on the other hand, looked better quite a bit better than the already gret 20mp non-HHHR image - and were 100% usable with no editing. That will be nice - I'll still edit, but it's nice to know I'll have almost 0 work to do with the images for the most part.Anyway, still enjoying this camera immensely. The SOOC images are fantastic - and seem (take this with a grain of salt) a little better than my EM1.2.Lastly, for those who may be interesting in the High Res modes, I just wanted to call out a couple of pages (that I bookmarked some time ago) that I think people might want to copy before the site goes off in a 9 days.Hand-Held High Res: A Practical Guideby MEDISN https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/63941008Pixel Shift: A Primer for Beginnersby MEDISN https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/63657587

Glad you found them helpful. I plan to re-post those guides somewhere when the dust settles. There are a few updates I need to make anyway.I agree the 25MP OOC JPG do look fantastic and are most commonly what I use. Nice to have options!

I've often thought that OMS should have a mode that provides a noticable uptick in IQ but with better usability... maybe fewer frames leading to even quicker processing and better motion compensation... maybe even less than 25mp but still with better DR and noise control than a single shot. Would only 2 frames, which should be able to be taken 1/60 sec apart, and merged very well of most subject matter, show any improvement over a single shot?

Just take the + one and the - one and merge. Much faster and same result. So, in camera, should be doable and not a bad idea.

I would think shot noise noticeably improved in the latter as is color accuracy.

I would absolutely find it very useful if I was given the option to select how many images I want the camera to stack, depending on whether I prioritize a quick outcome with better motion correction or a more detailed and cleaner result in static scenes where I'm not in a hurry. 2, 4, 8 and 16 images would be sufficient options.
