Which new SD card for Oly E-PL8?

h2k

Hello, which new SD card should I buy for my Oly E-PL8?Just for a while I will also pop this SD card also into a new Fujifilm camera (in the SD card slot). That Fujifilm doesn't like the very old existing SD cards (2 GB) from my Oly:Maybe a faster SD card is needed? But the main thing would be that the new SD card is fully compatible with the olden Oly E-PL8, and I am confused by all the varieties. I will certainly only take a (to me) well-known brand, these include Kingston, Lexar, and from a reputable dealer. Thanks!

Buy the best UHS-II SDXC card you can afford. ProGrade and SanDisk are two that I have used extensively and can recommend.Be sure to format the card you choose in the camera before using it.

Andy, thanks! But on my very old E-PL8, can i really get an UHS-II SD card with say 128 GB? So far i had only 2 GB (I don't need the very highest capacity). For some reason i believed there was a limit at 4 GB (i may be totally wrong).AndyH44 wrote:Buy the best UHS-II SDXC card you can afford. I doubt the E-PL8 would allow less. The E-PL8 is UHS-I, not UHS-II. I would still get UHS-II for future endeavors. Here's a 2016 thread on the subject:https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4068452

Bassam Guy, thanks, that's good info!

Andrew, thanks for commenting!I agree that for the E-PL8 alone a very moderate card like the one you mention might be fully enough and it saves money. Actually, in the Oly i never considered throwing out my 2 GB card, i never used it to capacity. But now that i have a very new Fujifilm camera for a little while that, unusually for me, i want to use with RAWs and that complains about "card errors" only when writing compressed RAWs, i might take the faster card anyway.Good you got your hands on an SD card after the loss. In my territory no hardware store would be allowed to open on Sundays and i doubt they have vending machines for SD cards. Still i like the "Sunday lockdown" for shops.

Hi all, now that i got a new fast SD card, it also allows the Fujifulm that i have temporarily to write compressed RAW files - which was not possible when i used the age-old SD cards from my Oly Pen (while JPG, HEIF and uncompressed RAW posed no problem). So while the new fast SD card may not be necessary for the olden Oly, it helped in this special case and who knows what (camera) the future may bring. Thanks again for all input!
