WT-5A with Nikon D5

rcgehrzmd

I purchased the WT-5A 4 years ago to provide wireless camera control and photo downloading with my Nikon D4.  I was disappointed with the instability of Wi-Fi and ad hoc connections, and found it to be of little practical use.  When the D5 was released with an expensive, updated WT-6 instead of built-in W-Fi, I decided not to upgrade to the D5 until I learned that the WT-5A was compatible.  I couldn't resist the dramatic improvements in autofocus, improved low-light performance at high ISO, 12-14 FPS, and increased resolution of the D5 ... so I took the plunge. Within the first 2 days, I installed HTTP and CCP connections to both my Wi-Fi router and direct ad hoc connections using the WT-5A as the Wi-Fi hotspot.  The performance for both remote camera control and photo downloads using Camera Control Pro on my laptop, and the WT-5A application on my MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone is spectacular and the connections are completely stable.  Using the WT-5A as a hotspot, I can use all of the wireless functions without the need for a separate router.
