D850 & Zootography

LA Zoo...D850 plus the 200-500 worked well in spite of some drab cloudy weather. These are a bit generic, but I think they turned out passable...Rob

RoyAmatore wrote:The peacock feather spread shot in fantastic.Thanks...very easy shot. The Peacock had his feathers out constantly, so just a matter of kneeling down and grabbing a few shots. So basically the lens and the bird did the work.Rob

I didn't do that in this case, but the VR of the 200-500 is really excellent. I've gotten sharp handheld shots down to 1/20 at 500mm, which I could never do without the VR.Rob

I often find something to lean againstInteresting,, I hardly ever even try to shoot at less than 1/500 with my 200-500mm on a D750. Even when leaning against something. I guess I should do some experimentation.Nice job. Hopefully you tagged the zoo in any shots you put online.I am the Oakland Zoo's official volunteer photographer (and a docent) so I spend a lot of time shooting at the zoo. I am always reminding people to tag the zoo so they can use your shots. It's amazing how well I am treated by my zoo in exchange for providing them with photos. I encourage people in other areas to work with their zoo to get the special access I have. It's a blast to be called to photograph newborn or newly arrived animals.I expect to get to shoot eagles and a jaguar when they arrive next week before anyone else gets a chance.I am just taking a short break from completely reworking my portfolio site. I have taken thousands of shots for almost a year now that I could not share with anyone except the marketing department. As of two days ago, the press corp came to shoot and now I can share mine. But selecting the best 10 or 15 of each species is a real hassle.

Years ago I was the A/V supervisor for the Bronx Zoo in NY, so you think it would have occurred to me!Rob
