Weird result when shooting D850 with live view

Martin Bond

Hi, Well, this is weird to me but I get vertical bars in some shots when shooting from the live view mode. I do not understand how that can happen.... Can that be related to the fluo light in the room ? My shots taken there without Liveview were ok (a surprise since I thought live view shots were the same as non live-view shots). I do not how to name those bars (english is a secondary language), is it banding or what ? So I was not able to find any reference to that in this forum, I hope my post is not a repetition of someone else'sThe sample here is sub exposed but this was from a breacket sequence and all exposure had that problem.

Martin Bond wrote:Can that be related to the fluo light in the room ?Yes.  The readout is comparatively slow on liveview, so flickering florescents can cause problems. So ensure a) that flicker detection is fully on and b) stick with the regular shutter.

From left to right, the time is 1/200, 1/100, 1/50, 1/25, the last one is quite ok.

was silent shooting active?

Martin Bond

Yes, I think it was !

The user manual in the section "Silent Live View Photography" says:"Flicker or banding may be visible in the monitor and in photographs under fluorescent, mercury vapor, or sodium lamps (for information on reducing flicker and banding, see the section on the movie shooting menu Flicker reduction option)"

To correct the issue: 1. Setup Menu2. Scroll down to Flicker Reduction - - -Select Auto and press OK Your other choice are 50HZ and 60Hz In the USA and Canada our Electric power supply is 60HzI assume the photos were taken in profile orientation but you elected to post it landscape.Perhaps your camera is set different from the frequency of your electric power supply. BTW,  take a picture of a TV screen,  I would not be surprise if flicker shows.Martin Bond wrote:Hi, Well, this is weird to me but I get vertical bars in some shots when shooting from the live view mode.
