If I get myself a new lens for xmas, should I wait to use it?

Swimming and Baseball Dad

Should I open my new toy on Christmas or just start playing now. As a kid, I had to wait to play with my baseball bat, duplos/legos, Transformers, walkman, etc. Have I earned to right to play with my gifts before Christmas?

If you want to impress the kids, wait till Christmas. Hoping the lens is fast enough to use right when unwrapping it.Otherwise start using it right away.JC Some cameras, some lenses, some computers

You MUST wait until Christmas morning. Preferably get someone in your family physically to acquire it and wrap it up too. That way it will also be a surprise!

If you bought it for yourself, use it. If it's a gift someone else bought for you - especially if it's someone you'll be spending Christmas with - wait until the Big Day to open it.

Waiting for Christmas is senseless. Enjoy life while you can.

start using it your wasting warranty time, and perhaps less time to return if somethings wrong with it

For those who think I should wait...too late, already started using it. It's the 16-80 f/2.8-4. Got it from MPB. If my wife got it, she would spent $1000 on a new one, instead of $460 for the "E" condition one (looks brand new - not a scratch on it). Takes great shots, and having 16mm vs 18mm on the wide end is nice for a lot of shots I take.I'll still wrap it up on the 24th, or let my wife do it.

Oh no! ... By opening your gift before Christmas morning, you have incurred a penalty under the Santa Clause.  You will now have to donate your lens!  .... I will PM you my address!Arnie
