Mid range zoom for digital video package?

rrotheisler

I'm looking for a mid-range zoom to shoot digital video with on a D800.I've shot with lot of Canon glass (I freelance for a lot of production companies- most of which have 5Ds.) I have used the Canon 24-105 IS a lot, and on balance like it. I'm after something like that in Nikon-land.I've got a 70-200 /2.8VR2, and a 24-70 /2.8 along with a bunch of odds and sods (primes, fisheye, and whatnot- I'm a long time stills Nikon hobby shooter)I very much like the 24-70 for stills work but I'm finding it just doesn't cut it for video. a) It's a pig, and DSLRs are unwieldy enough; b) no VR, which I've grown to love.Any thoughts? The 24-120 looks good. Nice range, and I can live with f/4, so long as it's constant, and it's got VR. Any gotchas? How much does it lengthen when you zoom? (Less is more.) How bad does it breathe when you pull focus?IQ counts, of course, but isn't quite the be all/end all it is in stills land. Thanks in advance
