Help with Z9 rubber eye cup please

dacrema

The robber eye cup on the view finder has started to pull away. I tried to press it back in place with no success. Is there a trick to accomplishing this task?

HeavyDuty

You mean the rubber is separating from the frame?

dacrema

Yes. It pulled away from the frame. I don’t know if the eyecup is removable as with other Nikons.  I’m in an RV on an extended vacation and do not have access to downloaded Nikon manuals.  The rubber part does not appear to be torn, so it must have pulled out rubbing something. My shirt for example.

HeavyDuty

If you haven’t tried this, remove the eyepiece and see if you can get better leverage to push the rubber back on.  It’s not clear what you have tried so far.

Oh, sorry about that.  I have t tried any thing except trying to finger press it back in. Though I suspected the cup is removable I was not sure it was and didn’t want to force something and possibly break it.  Is it a twist or is a a locking pin that needs to be pressed?  I really regret not downloading the manual on the laptop.

this link has the steps I need to follow I’m posting in case someone has the same issuehttps://coolwildlife.com/nikon-z9/nikon-z9-hoodeye-eyecup-eye-piece-replacement-diy/And the Lance B mentioned seems to be the same Lance B who posts here. So thanks Lance.

All back together now. Thanks. The before picEye cup off camera.I inspected the parts to make sure I did not break or rip anythingRubber ring back onSnap the retaining ring in place. This ring goes on only one way and only one side. So if things don’t snap in place easily stop and make sure prior steps are correct.Back in place. All parts secure.I used the screwdriver blade of my pocket knife to GENTLY remove the retaining ring.  That part looks the most delicate of the assembly.  I am going to order a second assembly to keep in the camera bag. I don’t know if it was the D70 or D300 that was always loosing eyecups. John

HeavyDuty

Thank you for illustrating the fix!

Had that very same issue today, the Rubber almost came off. I twisted it / rotated and somehow I think it’s secure now.  What’s taking Hoodman so long?
