Nisi lens hood for Nikkor Z f2.8 trinity - Disappointment

Karl-FR

Hello !I just bought theNisi lens hooddesigned for the Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8. This lens hood fit the Nikkor f2.8trinityIt's very handy and nice to use with theKase Pro Magnetic Filter Wolverine112mm.I can swap lenses and adapt filters on the trinity really quick. I just have to take off the lens hood with the filter attached and swap lenses and put the lens hood back.I tried the all set-up this morning and I'm a little bit disappointed. Because the Nisi lens hood claim to be no light leaking. And I notice this morning that there is noticeably light leaking on my picture during longexposure.I'm a disappointed. I bough this solution for 700€. (Kit filter 112m 629€ + Nisi lens hood 69€)Has anybody have any tips? I can't believe that I will have to fixe this in pp (Lr or Ps).To show you the light leaking, I post 2 differents raw shot. We can see it on the right side. The sun was in my back but hidden by the clouds. ( I attached a picture of my position with the sun in my back)Thank you so much for any help.

Interesting I use this hood on my 14-24 and have had no issues at all, but I use the NiSi filters. So is the light leaking from the camera side through the hood? or more likley the filters are secure enough to prevent light leakage?I have used the 112mm screw filters from NiSi as well as the 100mm filter holder.

Thank you James for your time and answer. It's a leak between the lens hood and the lens itself.I have put a flash and it's visible.Maybe it's a user error and I will be glad to have any tips.I choose kase filter for magnetic, it's handy but the leak doesn't come from here.

You can see it in the Nisi video around the 1:04 mark...less obvious,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvmRypFKBS0&t=50sClunky old fix gaffers tape...

Karl-FR

You are right Nick.I will receive the Z 14-24 f2.8 next week. I will see if I have the same light leak .Afterall the lens hood is design specifically for the Z 14-24 so let's say that there is a no leak on the Z 14-24.Finger crossed. If I don't find any solution for the two other lenses, I still have my 82mm screw filter for the 24-70 and 70-200. Thank you for your feedback! The thing is if I use tape, I will be stuck with that lens that I taped. If I need to swap lens, I will have to take off the tape first. Its a solution but not the more practical.Maybe I could  use a large tissue around the all lens hood.

Karl-FR

Got it James!I think that I will use the large Nikkor CL-C1 tissu around the lens hood to block light.I will keep updated this thread in case of someone experiments the same thing as me one day.

Karl-FR

Yes of course, I will try and let you know. But I'm already aware that the light leak is worse with the original lens hood provided with the Nikkor 14-24 f2.8. I have read some feedback on this forum and amazon review.

You could cut a piece of rubber or something equally flexible like neoprene to wrap around the area where the lens meets the hood.Karl-FR wrote:Thank you for your feedback! The thing is if I use tape, I will be stuck with that lens that I taped. If I need to swap lens, I will have to take off the tape first. Its a solution but not the more practical.Maybe I could use a large tissue around the all lens hood.

Karl-FR

Thank you FKS for your help.I'm not an handyman. So for now I just cutted into an CL-C1 case that I don't use at all.I will try tomorrow morning if it work. But technically the light should not come in anymore. Plus I can use it as a tissue to clean the front lens ah ah.

Karl-FR

Just to let you know that I gonna give up the idea to use the Nisi lens hood for the Z 24-70 f2.8 S and Z 70-200 f2.8 S.I am just going to use the Magnetic Step Up Filter Ring Adapter for each lens.I still hoping that there is no light leak between the Nisi lens hood and the Z 14-24 that I am going to receive next week.I will let you know how is going.Thank for help.

Accidentally setting exposure bracketing between shots can cause this type of effect. On a minor details there appears to be a sensor dust spot showing in the sky just left the building one third into the image area

Just a thought, How about using one of those fancy cloth wrist bands that teenage girls use on their writs?  It should fit well and has elastic band inside the material.  Just an "off the wall" idea!! Let us know if you try it....Gordon

A hood is to shield the elements/filters from direct light and maybe somewhat from diffuse light but I can't imagine how a slight leak from the mounting area could affect anything. How does the light get reflected back towards the lens?

I saw it too. I hope that one day Nikon will close the shutter while swapping lenses like other brand..Yes there is an exposure difference between the two shots. The sun was rising. Thank for notice this.Thank you for your help 🙏
