Woodpecker w/ ZD 90-250 (imgs)

Some imply that the ZD ED 90-250/2.8 is a tad soft wide open at the long end. I cannot concur. I find it brilliant throughout the range, although the FL of course requires pinpoint focus. Here's a couple of samples. The somewhat different hue/ambiance is because the pics are taken almost 1.5h apart, w/ a change in light and weather in between.Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), male. Feeding the nestlings w/ eggshell (!), robbed or found elsewhere. E-3, ZD ED 90-250 @236mm, F2.8, 1/200s, ISO 250, EV -0.3, tripod:Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), female. Note its needle-like tongue! E-3, ZD ED 90-250 @250mm, F2.8, 1/160s, ISO 320, tripod:

Great photos. The lens is really very sharp. It looks like the feeding in the first shot is a butterfly in the birds mouth. Thanks for posting. Now there's another fine SHG lens I must have. -- Dave No thought exists without an image. Socrates http://whaleshark.smugmug.com
