That's a beautiful blue sky with "da fence". Looks so good, compared to the cloudy and rainy weather we are still having in the Portland, Oregon area. But I did managed to capture some blue sky this past Saturday and Monday. What camera did you use to capture the blue sky?

All the elements are there. I took the liberty of looking at the EXIF and this confirmed my suspicion it was not from the E-1. Nevertheless, you've adapted well to dealing with the raw files from the PEN. It has your signature "look" but different IMO from the E-1. I like it.

From a technical perspective, I think you could have taken the scene at ISO 100 though the benefits (from a print perspective) would be minimal. With my E-PL1, I use ISO200 most of the time and ISO100 when I think i) I can and ii) the scene screams "big print" at me (not that I ever print, and I know I should - and will this year).tinternautwrote:All the elements are there. It's not horrible, reminds me of film even but if i'm not mistaken you work with lightroom and I couldn't help but think how smooth the comprehensive noise sliders in lightroom 3 would have made the sky without affecting much the biting sharpness of it all. Otherwise an image that shows how being simple can lead to great results.Bootstrapwrote:Bill Turner

Hi, BillIt is nice to see you are out and about doing your thing, although I'm sure it's not all peaches and cream. However, to the photo-I can't remember but have you cropped square in this past for this subject? At any rate, I like it and thanks for sharing. Larry

as a film person originally,, Tri X 400 , it was great, I could take some pics in lower light, and then having jumped from Kodacrhome, 25 up to Kodacrome 64,,, there was extra grain, which was a part of the picture,, I don't get the problem of noise,, it is the last thing that I look at in an image, but maybe I am so, old hat,, and everyone else thinks things need to be smoothed,,

I like it..It has the "Look" of one of your images, but different.. in a good way..I think your "eye" has changed... you might be "seeing more" in the image, and making sure we are "seeing it" too.

is in the EXIF:Date Time Original = 2011-05-31 16:25:34This means that you are up and out of your house, able to continue your ever growing series on Da Fence. But don't stop with the self portraits!!

Well that's why I mentioned that it's not a terrible thing and how it reminded me of film but for an image where the seduction of color is used and a lot of sky is in the frame to really make the photo it just became something that my eyes imediately noticed, the noise became somewhat of a detraction from the overall image. With film it couldn't be helped, with digital it can be.I have no issue with noise as it can be hidden or used well or not even matter depending on the subject matter. I always appreciate constructive criticism, people usually aren't honest enough imo. My school background in photography may be a part of this though, we were shreded to bits when it came time to present our work but we sure learned a hell of a lot more than being cheerleaded by friends and family.I'm sure he knows about the sky noise, he probably knows that some people may find it a bit of a con but the overall colors and composition still make the photo greatBrad Rosswrote:as a film person originally,, Tri X 400 , it was great, I could take some pics in lower light, and then having jumped from Kodacrhome, 25 up to Kodacrome 64,,, there was extra grain, which was a part of the picture,, I don't get the problem of noise,, it is the last thing that I look at in an image, but maybe I am so, old hat,, and everyone else thinks things need to be smoothed,,

noise is relative,, you wrote some direct responses,, ,, I think we are on the page, I don't disagree,, ,, Bill Turner can turn the "noise" off and on, in his images, like I said before,, sometimes I like grainy and not smooth,, ..... -- Brad Ross

You can say it: It's horrible! It's also easily fixable in Lr. Thanks for your candidness; I prefer honest opinion.Bill Turner

Billl, whenever I look at your pics of these fences in florida, I think back to the "snow fences" in the midwest, where I grew up,, that were put up by farmers to keep snow from drifting over onto roads,,, I think a good juxtaposition would be a photo of the snow fences with the sand fences,,,Brad
