[LARGE IMAGE] E-510 + 50-200 (Mk I) = WOW
Inigo Montoya
I haven't posted in ages, but this casual portrait "wow"ed me even on the camera's LCD display. I rarely "wow" myself, but shots like this remind me - it's generally not the camera that's the problem. This is the OOC JPG*, set for 1600x1200, SHQ compression, +1 on sharpness, contrast, and saturation. *(I shoot RAW + JPG, if I need > 1600x1200 I use the RAW)1/125s f/3.2 at 50.0mm iso200One more here: http://www.pbase.com/inigmntoya/image/135055716/original.jpg

... another sharp image from an E-510 and 50-200. Yawn.Seriously -- excellent portrait. Everything about it is great. Also seriously -- the 510 is an excellent camera and the 50-200 is an excellent lens.

The 510 can be temperamental, but if you play to its strengths it can do a nice job. Shooting in harsh light trying to preserve the highlights is a challenge, and the AF can be a little fiddly when trying to catch moving objects. In reviewing my take from the race Sunday, there are quite a few where I "caught the shot", except the AF locked onto the background.

Hope you don't find triathlon shots boring.

Gidday InigoTwo lovely shots of a very sweet looking young lass. Well done.I nearly sold my E-510 when I bought the E-30, but I am glad I didn't.Both are excellent cameras IMO, but suit different needs I have from time to time.

It's the right size, it's easy to hold, and you can get to most all the interesting settings without hitting the menus.

the E510 had been my first DSLR and i love it from day one.. many of my nice photo taken with this combo.. i am not suprise, the oly let down is why not so many people aware of it potential..

My first as well. I learned soon enough to shoot at -1/3 stop and keep it at ISO 400 or below, and we got along just fine. It simply delivers. Lack of speed eventually got me into the E-30.Cheers,Rickarief poerniawanwrote:the E510 had been my first DSLR and i love it from day one.. many of my nice photo taken with this combo.. i am not suprise, the oly let down is why not so many people aware of it potential..

Nice capture of a cute girl.I have always loved the 50-200 on the E-510. You were using it at the wide end where it's sharpest. The 50/2 macro gets a lot of attention, but a lot of people don't realize that at around 70mm, with both lenses wide open and at f/4 and beyond, the 50-200 is every bit as sharp as the 50/2.http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/zproducts/olympus50-200f2.8-3.5/tloader.htmhttp://www.slrgear.com/reviews/zproducts/olympus50f2/tloader.htmJulie

With respect: the image could use some post work. The exposure, levels and color balance could all use a bit of adjustment:

If you had told me it was the E5 I, would say I believe you. While the E5 is less sensitive for blown out parts due it's dynamic range and the E510 is way more sensitive for highlights, this image is great.Regards Lou-Inigo Montoyawrote:I haven't posted in ages, but this casual portrait "wow"ed me even on the camera's LCD display. Seems I stepped away for more than a bit and got behind on my replies, but I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and constructive comments.I've got a couple more events still sitting in my camera from last weekend, so you may not be quite rid of me yet.
