Have you put your contact info on your camera in case you lose it?

Spent Memorial Day at Cayuga Lake State Park where we walked through the woods. When I got home I received a cell phone call. The ranger at the park said another visitor had found my Delorme PN-30 GPS on the parking lot. It had my email address and cell phone number on a label. I didn't even realize it had fallen off my camera bag! The next day it was mailed back to me by another park employee. Arrived in good condition yesterday!Dave Silbert

A few years back I belonged to a camera club. Some other people had the same camera I did.It was the little c-7000z Olympus and you could edit the splash screen with your name etc. I don't remember how it was done, but real handy as a rapid proof of ownership. I still have that little gem.Paul

"Dear careless photographer, thanks for all the info you left on your equipment, while you are abroad we were able to track your sucsesfull career in photojournalism, and to your website and home address ; we are now in custody of your wife and kids and we are glad to request from you the following amount of dollars xxxxxx to be transfer to our northen Europe account, or else" Love, Finders Keepers. My take: Why play the fool two times in a row?See the other thread about the guy that gave up all his gear at gun point in LA, now tell me that you will have fought the thieves. The same way, if you are fool enough to walk into the wrong side of towm or to forget your gear in a cab, just replace it, and learn the lesson, why make it worse? Do I whacth to many movies, yes I do! -- Bluephotons Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now. Bob Dylan

Though I like the idea of hiding labels in places on the equipment, so I might do that. What this thread has reminded me of is my Trip 35. IT has a label on the underside. I bought it legitimately (i think?) from an older aged man who was selling it, and was glad it was going to be used. I wish I got more information about the camera now. It has a womans name and address on the bottom, the label is quite old with a non-existant old style phone number on it. It is from the other side of the country too. I will do a project to goto the address one day. I dont know if it would be possible to trace the former owner.

Newer cams allow for a welcome screen selection. My newer cams have my info on them and all cards have a pic of my contact info as the first pic.

Not to worry. You carry enough identification on you that robbers would be able to figure out where you live quite easily enough. Especially if you are dealing with organized crime.
