Now that we are on the other side of the full moon, moving toward 3rd quarter, it once again is getting some relief and looking more interesting. This shot was taken tonight with my 816mm combo: TV85+0.8xFF/FR+1.7AFA+K5 (FF/FR = field flattener/Focal Reducer), f/9.5, 1/500 sec, ISO=500, cropped to 2000x2000 and reduced to 1200x1200 for the web.LPA

Thanks everyone. This image was shot as part of my goal to capture as much as of the moon's libration as possible. So far I've only missed one night due to clouds, but now the challenge is to either stay up very late or get up in the middle of the night as the moon approaches 3rd quarter. I hope to go several days past 3rd quarter. So far I have day 5-17 with only day 13 missing (no superstition here, just clouds). I haven't yet gone back and done histogram equalization on all the images, but the 5-17 day animation is starting to show the libration cycle. Here is a link to what I've gotten so far: http://remotesensingart.com/Pentax10/Moon05_17.gifSome details. Like most short-focal length scopes, the TV85 (600mm f/7) has a very slight curvature of its focal plane which would not be noticeable on terrestrial targets. The TV field-flattener I have also reduces the focal length by 0.8x which makes this a 480mm f/5.6 scope. My 1.7AFA brings that up to 816mm f/9.52. I haven't compared the results of digitally upsizing a moon image taken without the 1.7AFA to one taken with it, but I'm very pleased with what I've gotten with the 816mm combo. It also works very well to get closer to the hummers at my feeder. One of the all-time great sci-fi books is Robert Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. In the spirit of that book, I have processed these images by changing the WB temperature to a cold 4250 degrees. The moon is not a warm, fuzzy place.LPA

I may have seen better moon shots, but I can't remember them. Bravo!

Beautiful shot.No way I´m getting this kind of a sharp moon shot with my sigma 600mm mirror and a 2x converter!

LPA,Great picture and like the libration series as well. Nice subtile colours you show in the mares. Those TV scopes are wonderfull aren't they! Looking forward to your finished series. So far life is not that bad, asuming you live in the northern hemisfere, the autumn moon going towards 3rd querter doesn't rise too late! Thumbs up for no clouds to disturb the good job! -- Kind Regards / Met vriendelijke groet,Jetze
