Used the 28-200 the vast majority of the time. I also recommend a dashcam or window mount for your phone for the Road to Hana should you do that.thanks that is helful.

I have the 28-200 and it’s a perfect travel lens. I think you’ll appreciate being able to isolate subjects and compress landscapes with it covering longer focal lengths. I would pair that lens with the tiny light and very sharp Voigtlander 21mm f/3.5. The Voigtlander is manual focus only but pretty much everything is In focus from 5 feet to infinity and it’s a fun lens to use. It captures excellent sun stars and would be perfect for wide angle landscape sunsets or when wider angle is generally needed. If I needed a faster wide angle for astrophotography or night shooting then I’d pair the Tamron 28-200 with the Sony 20 f/1.8 G.

Any advice particularly from those who may have both. I typically have rarely shot wider than 20mm and prefer 50+I have both lenses and recommend the 28-200mm. It’s a better lens for travel IMO. I’d rather have the extra reach than the wide. You could also bring a something like Samyang 24/1.8 or Sony 20/1.8 for wide and indoors.I take two lenses. Sony 16-35/4 PZ G and Tamron 28-200mm.I agree about the 28-200 as a very useful travel lens. I travel 5-6 months a year and all I take now is that lens plus 20mm f/1.8. That is it.

I also used my iPhone 14 Pro Max for some photos. I'm including three photos here (with the two lenses and the iPhone) that show how the lenses complement each other. All photos were taken near the 30th floor of the hotel (Sevilla Tower) and behind the glass window (which could not be opened).PZ 16-36 at 34mm28-200 at 88mmIphone 14 Max Pro at 24mm

I have an A1 and an A9. Will only bring one of these to California.  I will probably bring my 24-105 G f4, and maybe the 70-200 2.8 oss ii.  I also have the 12-24 G f4.  However I am thinking of getting the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM for low light street and environmental portraits.

We traveled to Maui in March 2020 and Kona in December 2022. I used a midrange zoom on both trips for ~85% of (non-iPhone) photos and was very happy with them (24-105G the first time, 24-70GMII the second). It wasn't often but there were a few instances where a telephoto lens would have come in handy. Also had a few fast wide primes that came in handy occasionally (20G, 35GM).I probably used my iPhone 14 Pro Max for as many shots as my A7IV on the recent trip
