Sony 24mm 1.4 GM astigmatism issues (or camera problem?)

chrislunder

Hi good people! This is my first post here, but I've been following from the side lines for a while. So thank you for all the great information you provide! And I am really sorry for the long post. And I really hope someone can save my a** on this one 😅Initially I was sure I just had a bad copy as I read a lot about copy variations on this particular lens. But it it a 2021 issue so would think most of that would have been ironed out by now.I was out doing som test shots in my yard the other night to check my kit before a trip and right away noticed something was wrong. With the 24mm 1.4 GM on my A7RIV what to me looks like crazy astigmatism (both). Worst at the corners, but still visible in the center. This is wide open at 1.4. And it is pretty persistent until f/2.8. But at 2.8 I see elongated stars pointing towards the center. So tonight I switched to my A7IV and the result are way better. But I still getting those elongated stars.. So now I am really confused. I was hoping this was just a lens problem, but then I guess the astigmatism (if that is what it is) would be present on both camera bodies. I understand that higher MP might make things more apparent, but not to this degree. Can anyones shed som light on this mystery? I am going on a there week nightcap photo trip soon so this is a bit of a nightmare 😅 I will be forever grateful for any help. Thanks in advanceThe first image is from the A7R4 ( you can see the stars are like crosses). I have seen raws from other copes of this lense with pin point stars at 1.4This second image is shot on my A7IV. A lot better but the stars are elongated towards the center. Most visible on the left side of the frame.
