I am planning to purchase the Sony 16-35mm this May, and saw by accident a brief mention of Sony announcing the GM II version (rumor dated in December) and found that at CES+ this lens was not announced. So I wanted to check whether lenses always get announced at CES, or if they have multiple times/events throughout the year they would announce new products.

Nah, stuff rarely seems to get announced at CES anymore tbh, Sony puts out stuff all thru the year and nobody really knows when a GM II might show up until it's real or there's a very obvious leak with pics etc.

Thanks for the reply, I was trying to decide whether to hold off on purchase of the v1 lense in May as I wont need it until November. With this information I may just wait until Sept, and if one is announced but not released I can always go to Lens Rentals and wait for the GM II then.
