That doesn’t imply hot glue won’t work - just that I have no clue since I have limited experience with it. The slight experience I do have suggests the sheering strength of that glue isn’t very high. Plastic welder compounds or mechanical coupling (bolts) seem the strongest option.

Sometimes I find pinch caps annoying and prefer this older style:https://www.ebay.com/itm/384735828575?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=KRlGmF4pTwi&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=tE4NvQVNROe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

But what problem of the cap really? It doesn't need to constantly put on/off but only once before and after each shooting task that most people do I guess.  But the vulnerable loosening hood is a real issue.  I bought this foldable hood not in eBay but in AliExpress that is about $10 cheaper (as on discount).  It's the same item and either will ship from China so I will get by early April, well before my Africa trip in August.ROLANPRO Lens Hood Telephoto Foldable Hood Custom Made for Sony 200-600mm

A good looking cap isn’t always a good design.

A good looking cap isn’t always a good design.I add 3M Safety-Walk Slip-Resistant Medium Resilient Tape to the center pinch grip on all my lens caps. This is rubbery, not a gritty abrasive that you would not want anywhere near an optical surface. Per 3M "... a resilient, non mineral, slip resistant material. Soft surface is suitable for bare feet. For locker rooms and recreational/athletic equipment, boats and docks, interior stairwells, entryways and lobbies. ... 3M™ Safety Walk™ Slip Resistant Tapes and Treads Series 300 has been certified by the National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) as providing “high traction.”Do not add this to the outer rim pinch area of the lens cap of a lens with reversible mount hood unless you first check the hood will fit over the extra diameter added by this tape. For good adhesion, thoroughly clean the surface of the lens cap with soap & water and/or isopropyl alcohol, carefully cut a strip to the exact required width and length, and apply. A one or two foot length of the tape will be a lifetime supply for lens caps. I got mine in gray at the local Ace Hardware store over a decade ago for some basement stairs.Link to the product on 3M's website:www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/dc/v000522668/
