Q3 coming soon?

Hoka Hey

The Q2 is on backorder on the Leica website, but available at retailers. Is that any indication that the Q3 is just around the corner?

DenverSteve

No. Leica announced that they are going to delay the release of the Q3 one week, for every time someone starts a thread here about when the Q3 is coming out.  We're now up to 2025 .......................

Now, I have a brand new Q2 arriving today. So, I don’t want to have its value drop a few grand overnight if the Q3’s arrival is imminent.I’m hoping that some folks on this thread may have been following this saga and will be able to give me an educated guess.

If you don't want that to happen buy preowned.

If you are I suggest buying gold or diamonds as an investment.

I’m more concerned about what the camera does and if the Q3 is going to have a better sensor, better AF, and a flippy screen, I’m willing to wait for that. I also don’t want to lose 1000 or $1500 in value on the camera overnight.

If the Q2 is on back order that would imply only that the supply chain is full downstream and adding more product would cost Leica and retailers money they might need elsewhere.

No amount of concern or worry will change that. When the M11 came out the M10r didn't change at all. Leica has the strongest value retention of any camera equipment so............ what will be, will be.  Enjoy the new camera and take lots of pictures.

However, once the Q3 comes out, the value of even a used Q2 is going to drop significantly.I just got a great very lightly used q2 monochorom(so much so that it can pass as new) from mpb.com. so happy to have a leica at long last. impressed with the b w and the user interface. i learned a long time ago that waiting for vapor ware is not worth it for me at any rate, might as well enjoy the benefits of ownership right away and not feel envious of newer kit.i love the flippy screen idea but will have to see. i am of a certain age where getting to the ground is almost as bad as gettin to standing up. those screens really help for camera angles.

Hoka Hey

Thanks to everyone who has replied. The Q2 came today and the images are very impressive. The interface is going to take a little getting used to. Drove me nuts trying to figure out how to center the AF square. Fortunately, I found a thread on here about the double tap.The jury remains out on whether I will keep it. I did get a nice deal on it. So, that helps.

I wonder how many” Q2 or wait for Q3? posts show up per week. More or less the same than the “Fuji X100V or wait for X100VI?” though. 😂

Is that any indication that the Q3 is just around the corner?2026 ….Yes, but what day? 😂With Canon, when a new camera is just around the corner, rumors leak. I didn't want to buy the Q2 a week before the Q3 was supposed to be announced. I have satisfied myself that I've done all I can to avoid that.Thanks.

Le Chef

You're implying that the Q2 will cease to function the day the Q3 launches despite many current happy Q2 owners. You also imply that you might want to sell your Q2 once the Q3 arrives with your unwritten concerns about value of the older model. If these really are concerns, then the smartest thing to do is either buy a preowned Q2 now and enjoy it, knowing its value has already declined. Or wait for the Q3, and wait...and wait...and wait...

In the end, the phase detect AF was the deal breaker. So, I'm returning it tomorrow. For me, the Q3 will be a treat. It's just fun. I don't mind waiting for it and hoping that Leica makes the upgrades I'm hoping for. I'm very happy shooting with the gear that I have until it comes out.Best,
