Q3 coming soon?

its a good thing that people have other opinions and make different choices. as for me im having a blast with my used q2m and do not regret one day of ownership. focus speed and a higher mpx count wont tempt me for a while at least (until good used ones become available) maybe.

You’re making an assumption it will have phase detection. I’m not so sure it needs it: after all it’s not a camera you use for sports photography and for street, use manual zone focus. Sorted.

My Q2 has always, and continues, to focus on anything I’m shooting.  For a contrast focus - there has to be appropriate contrast.

Seems the accessibility of the Q series has introduced thoughts that Leica would follow a rapid update cycle.Leica is not Fuji.

After checking with Leica, I was told that what I'm seeing is normal behavior due to the type of autofocus this camera uses. I'm just used to a different type of AF and have trouble adapting to the Q2's AF. Just a matter of preference. Thanks for all your help.

Sorted.Exactly. No AF needed then.Of course, lots of folks shooting street really like Eye AF. Probably one of the reasons why Leica put it on the Q2.

Eye AF is a waste of time: it can’t think for you and picks the face nearest the camera. Plenty of times that’s not the face you want to focus on. DIY still works best.

Or wait for the Q3, and wait...and wait...and wait...Thanks. The Q2 is a very nice camera. The Q2 lens is stellar. However, the body is 4 year old tech. In the end, the phase detect AF was the deal breaker. So, I'm returning it tomorrow. For me, the Q3 will be a treat. It's just fun. I don't mind waiting for it and hoping that Leica makes the upgrades I'm hoping for. I'm very happy shooting with the gear that I have until it comes out.Best,I may be way off the mark, but I wonder if the user experience of a Q3 will be significantly different - incremental AF improvement and more MP, I'd be surprised if it feels much different in the hand and in use.I just don't think the kind of AF you are looking for (which seems to be sony/canon/nikon kind of AF) is likely to land in a reliable way even in a new version.  I may be wrongYou see it with the GFX cameras - on paper the GFX100 has phase detect and speed improvements, but if you pick up a GFX50sii and a 100s, the real world differences are very minor, and eye AF isn't hugely improved - I think the Q2 to Q3 will be similar.

Lots has happened with cameras in the last 4 years. For what it's worth, the AF in the GFX 100 wasn't an issue.Anyhow, I'm looking forward to see what Leica comes up with. It's all just fun.

A camera"lol

If the sales volume is at a consistent level, why replace it? You typically only replace the model if sales are dipping or to pre empt a rival’s launch of their updated model. If I were Leica I would sit tight on the Q3 and instead address with some urgency the very outdated SL2.
