Leica Monthly Photo Thread for March 2023

Wanted to get out to play with the M10-R some. I was shooting DNG and Jpeg / monochrome. The  native SOOC B&W were ok but.....Color version - I prefer this to the B&W because of the colors.B&W Version w/ my edits.Constellation Field taken through the outfield fence. Candid taken in-between setups on a movie I'm shooting.  Murray is the B camera focus puller. This was shot M10 with the 75mm Noct, and I rarely pull this lens out.  it's quite heavy and kind of anti Leica M because of it's large size and weight.  It's also so damn hard to get it in focus.I tend to use the EVF, but it doesn't really help that much. One thing I've noticed with this and the 50 APO lenses compared to the other Leica M lenses I own is the way the focus falls off.  It's either very much IN focus or it's NOT AT ALL in focus. The area that is in focus does have an extra level of detail and pop. It's hard to describe, but the very shallow focus field is beautiful and nuanced, but it very much falls off a cliff once it's "out".  On near misses you can really tell where the focus was placed.  I put this down to the newer lens designs?Image process in C1 defaults, basic colour balance and contrast only, no crop, no retouching.

Another overcast weekend but I enjoyed an excellent walk over the small fell of Silver How.  It was quiet and the ground was dry, which makes a big difference on this particular walk.

High contrast plus high correction for various aberrations leads to a lack of optical fuzz between in focus and out of focus. I like the look when I'm using such a lens wide open (or nearly so) but not so much when I'm zone focusing and relying on the lens to give me some extra help re. apparent depth of field.Modern look:90mm APO 'Cron SL at f/2.Classic look:1980s 90mm Tele-Elmarit at either f/4 or 5.6.-Dave-

A day of contrasts.  Snow and grey light first thing in the Lake District followed by a snowy drive through the Lake District up to sunny Scotland and on the ferry to the Ilse of Bute.

Amidst the Biker Week here in Florida, there was a St. Patricks Day Parade in St. Augustine. That dovetailed into a Celtic Festival. A perfect day for Men in Kilts to interact with the bikers.

An enjoyable couple of days exploring the Scottish island of Bute.  Mostly grey, windy weather, but thankfully I had my Q2M to hand to get the most from the inauspicious conditions.
