Just a little photoshopping to see how it looks and fits.If anyone has found any samples, please do tell !Official product page here.Official product page (dutch).

I have a D800, and am thinking about a fast 35mm. This Sigma has peaked my interest. Looks good on the D600. It has an almost Zeiss like finish/look to it. I hope the IQ at 1.4 looks equally as good. Amazing photoshopping by the way.

Is the lens weatherproof?-TBri

I just ordered one mostly to keep on the D600. I have only bought Nikon in the past so this will be my first non-Nikon lens. But from the samples and price, I can't go wrong.

Some fullframe samples this time, true 35mm.They may only be webformat, but is it clear that contrast and the corners at F1.4 are sharp !http://photo.yodobashi.com/gear/sigma/lens/3514dgeos/index.htmlVery much impressed ...

SixDasher

Depends...I find it quite overpriced for a Sigma, and we have yet to see FF samples and corner performance. I have their 50/f1.4 and love it for it's bokeh and portrait shooting, but it is horrible in the corners and suffers from CA making it useless for pano/landscapes. If the 35 is anything like it's sibbling...

SixDasher

Only the glass building one has anything in focus in the corners, and this is at 12% of full res, so not possible to tell if it is sharp in the corners.

Are you able to locate the focus point in the picture ? That's right, you can, with great precision. So you can tell what is sharp and what is not.Even OOF area can look worse in the corners, from fringing, vignetting, loss of contrast, distortion etc. This does not disappear in a (good quality) web image. And i like what i see.But sure, i guess this is something for experienced users. Not that it's that difficult tho, you'll just have to acknowledge it. Certainly it doesn't tell the full story, but a whole lot more than some seem to think. In the same way, the difference between these fullframe samples and apsc crops from before is huge, aside from the increased FoV obviously.

If the 35 is anything like it's sibbling...Why, because you have a certain perception of the Sigma name ?It's clear that with their new website and range op products they're trying to up their standards. And if indeed the built and performance is up to the task, i'm more than fine with it. Have you seen the 35/1.4 Nikkor price ? If this Sigma is below €999 with the performance it aims to and indeed appears to deliver, count me in !This is most definitely not the 30/1.4 quality we might be used to from Sigma.

Count me in for the sigma.  This will be my second sigma lens beside the 150 F2.8 Macro (Excel lens).  Can't spend that much for the Nikon.  Hope Sigma will get me the 24 F1.4 and 135 F1.8 soon.Keith

I've had a few sigma's and they all tended to have the same character. I kept the 50/1.4EX and the 15mm fisheye for QTVR. SO it's not like I'm knocking them as I use them myself. No experience with their DX lenses, so can't comment on the 30/1.4.The Nikon 35G s €1400-1450, if Sigma comes in at €1000 I would not go the sigma route for that kind of price difference in this class of lens. A €600 level would be more realistic, they don't have the name or reputation for high-end lenses at this time. I'd like to see them beat my 30 year old 35/1.4 AIS

nikon1983

i've been in the nikon camp for almost 3 decades and i'm using a couple of sigma ex lenses that i'm very happy with (85/1.4, 150/2.8). up to now every bit of evidence shows the 35/1.4 will perform better than the nikon and canon counterparts, if the af does its job. my sigma 85 af spot-on in an instant, while i failed to find 1 properly af 30/1.4 out of 5-6 samples. optically i'm sure this sigma will trump both the aig and ais.

If the 35 is anything like it's sibbling...I think you should be comparing this one more with Sigma's recent 85mm f/1.4 which is virtually as good as the Nikon version, not the older Sigma lenses. The street price of the new Sigma will be lower than the RRP so at, say, £700 against £1350 for a Nikon and with similar optical quality, it's the Nikon that's looking overpriced, not the Sigma.

SixDasher

Had a D700 and now on a D800. Still tons of details and my best 35mm.

SixDasher

The 50/1.4 and 85/1.4 certainly don't trump the AIS, hence my expectation the 35/1.4 will not be any different than the 50/1.4EX. Have you ever compared these lenses in real life? Besides bokeh the 50/1.4 has little over the 50/1.4AFS, and completly looses out to my 50/f2 AI. Okay, it has AF and a huge filtet thread
