At PF, Pentax Croatia mentioned no FF this year. Down doggies.

“good things are coming”. may be a MILC FF.or a cheap 645D at the same price of D800E.

Pentax_Prime

No, just desperation; no 'promises of FF', no mention of FF, no FF lenses, and repeated indications that a FF DSLR is not coming from Pentax in 2012. When the FF DSLR of your dreams doesn't appear, I hope you'll rethink your detective strategies.

RSTP14

Well, that is not a lie. K-3 (APS-C) is a good thing and coming, DA560mm is a good thing and coming, second gen. 645D is a good thing and coming... I guess that indeed, good things ARE (plural... 9 of them) coming, doesn't mean FF !

My ist*DS lasted me 7 years and my K-5 will, in no doubt, last as long and I will be happy with that sensor.Would hardly call it a detective work when I by accident run into a interesting and fun rumor while surfing the webNjáll

It could be anything, but it doesn't say FF even if the question was about FF and the guy answered that good thing is coming. -- Leopold Pentax forever http://smarcoux.zenfolio.com/ http://www.limagier-photo.com/ http://www.firstlight.com/galleries.php http://steevemarcoux2.wordpress.com/

My guess is that those who have been speculating that the "replacement/K-3" for the K-5 will be introduced at Photokina and will be a 24MP APS-C are right, and those who also think that in addition Pentax will release a FF in the first or second quarter of 2013 may be right. My biggest concern about a FF release, however, is that Pentax has a relatively small lens offering, as it is (compared with Canon or Nikon), and many of its current lenses WON'T be fully compatible with a FF camera. Even if ALL the new lenses are, the introduction of a FF camera is going to have them selling a camera for which they have few fully-compatible lenses for sale.I'm also in FULL AGREEMENT with everyone who says Pentax likely has little to nothing to gain from adding a full frame just to have a "Me Too!" full-frame in its line. Instead, they've focused on APS-C and produced the best for the money -- and anyone who doesn't think the K-5 beats the D-7000, dollar for dollar, just hasn't looked at the facts (other than the D7000s faster dual card slots). All the same, BECAUSE there are so many folks out there who don't think a camera company is "serious" unless they offer a full-frame camera (just like so many folks think more megapixels ALWAYS mean better pictures -- UGH!), Pentax's best business decision, long-range, just MAY be to release a FF camera. I'm NOT counting the 645 because even though the sensor in that actually EXCEEDS full frame (as it's medium format), it's price ALSO exceeds even the most expensive FF camera (Nikon's D$ is $6,000, body-only; Pentax's 645 is $10,000, roughly, body-only), and there are only 3 or 4 lenses for the 645, also QUITE expensive. A TRUE "35mm" camera somewhere in the league of, perhaps the Canon 5d series, would give Pentax something "sorta in the middle" as an offering to suit folks who don't think APS-C is enough but can't afford or won't get enough utility (i.e., no long lenses, etc.) with the 645. Jeff -- A word is worth 1/1000th of a picture... Maybe that's why I use so many words!

IF they decide to go FF it might be a MLC as some have talked, with full weather sealing, EVF and tilting LCD.Maybe 2013, we never know but i'm not waiting for it, if i want (or need) a FF camera i would just go out and by a Nikon, Canon or Sony!BTW i already have a Sony FF lens , the 70-300mm G series, so i would just need a good Macro lens and a WA zoom -- Leopold Pentax forever http://smarcoux.zenfolio.com/ http://www.limagier-photo.com/ http://www.firstlight.com/galleries.php http://steevemarcoux2.wordpress.com/

Hence no need for an EVF, no AF issues, and a fantastic street / travel camera occupying a dedicated market niche unfilled by no one other than Leica M8/9. Attractive to pros as a second light and fast nearly silent backup camera, attractive to enthusiasts as well. Sell this poppy for MSRP $2500 and they've got an instant winner.

I just hope Pentax does not come up with another version of the Q, in 560 colors and a million combinations, with a 36mp sensor and published ISO ability to 58.000 ;- )In all seriousness, I bet Pentax will have some great new items, I think their days of playing cutesy are over !wll

I think what Pentax Australia meant was the k-3 will have comparable performance to a FF.If they are capable of doing to the 24MP sensor what they did to the 16MP sensor, then I think the differences between FF and APS-C will further diminish. And I think that's a pretty "good thing." Nobody has to go out and buy a whole new lens lineup etc, just a new body.Or maybe they just meant a better AF system and tilting LCD. Yawn

What exactly did they do with the 16 MP sensor? Nothing. The sensor was made by Sony (not Pentax), and K-5 performance was pretty similar to every other camera that used that sensor: D7000, D5100, and A580 (only 2 point dxomark difference, which falls in the margin of error category). There is no reason whatsoever to believe that K-3's image quality would be same as Full-frame cameras like D800 (if the sensor tech is the same). Laws of physics.

citrontokyowrote:I think what Pentax Australia meant was the k-3 will have comparable performance to a FF.The ricehigh blog today seems to be quite specific about an actual full frame Pentax DSLR coming in 2013. It wll be next year because Ricoh apparenty doesn't want to rush it out the door half-baked (eg for Photokina).

You'd think though they'd show a prototype if they did plan to release a camera to keep peopleon board. Not like anyone would sell their Pentax gear because a FF camera is coming, but it may attract new customers and keep existing customers, if they at least announce they are working on it.anthony mazzeriwrote:citrontokyowrote:I think what Pentax Australia meant was the k-3 will have comparable performance to a FF.The ricehigh blog today seems to be quite specific about an actual full frame Pentax DSLR coming in 2013. Pentax have insisted ther is no FF in the near term (18 months ago)That means 2013 ealiestl, But if teh rumour of an AA free k3 are true then ther is no way Penatx will release a competing product and also indicates they don't have one. With 4 dlsr release sleighted for the next 6 months Penatx/ricoh would not have been able to command enough reources never mind cash to design a FF productSo logically q3-q4 2013 is the earliest possible and more probable deep q4 2013 or q1 2014.Thats even if Pentax want to think of FF

Douglas Film

if Pentax goes full you can still use their apsc body while those who want ff can use the full frame body. I like my D800 but would prefer a Pentx ff camera.Douglas Film
