A7rII keeps freezing
juvx
Does anyone else has the issue where the a7rII will just freeze up for no reason and seem to reset itself in the middle of a shoot. Seems to be happening more and more to mine. I often fix it by simply turning the camera off but this process takes about 10-20 seconds and it's a bit embarrassing while shooting a model.... It also happens when reviewing images at times.Happened 4-5 time today.

does it happen with different cards? How full are the cards when it happens?

Also different Sandisk Pro U3 cards.. it still happens. Very odd. I can still shoot after turning camera off and on but its really really annoying and embarrassing. Matt Granger mentioned it as well in one of his recent a7rii review videos.

However, it was because the camera strap got in front of the EVF. The camera had switched to EVF instead of LCD, and appeared to be frozen because nothing showed on the LCD.

I know that at times my EVF is more sensitive than I would like it to be, like when I am holding my camera at chest level to use the LCD and it shuts off as the EVF sees my chest or something and switches the EVF on. I would command the LCD on manually but that is way more effort than just holding the camera a little farther away.

Happened with my A7rII with metabones III and various Canon/Sigma lenses. I'm now using Fotodiox adapter, much better, but still happens now and again. I'm going to send Metabones back for latest firmware update which I understand works well.Nigel

Since this is rare and Granger is seeing it with his MTB. It could be a connection issue. How about the new firmware?

Can you take a look and see the firmware version of your Fotodiox please? ("Version" under the last MENU, with lens attached.) Thanks.

First try some Sony lenses to rule out that one. If problems get serviced. If no problems try another adapter and most likely the freeze will thaw...

Sorry don't have the Fotodiox with me at the moment, away at the beach. Will have a look when I'm back on Monday.Nigel

As others have suggested it may be a problem with an adapter but you have not said that you are using native lenses or those with an adapter. I have tried Canon and Zeiss lenses with my A7Rii using an adapter and I have had the camera freeze up at one time or another. Has never happened with a Sony lens.

It also happens when reviewing images at times.Happened 4-5 time today.Any chance your using the Sony wired remote trigger? I've had a similar problem but I think it was do to the use of RM-VPR1Remote Control with Multi-terminal Cable?I've done two astrophotography sessions when my A7RII would lock up like you said. Both time I initially thought it might be the Batis 25mm lens I was using but switched out the lens to a older Zeiss ZE with Metabones adapter and still had the problem. Finally yanked out the remote due to my frustration and it was working fine again.I have a VG-CE2M grip as well and ruled that out as the problem.I haven't had a chance to do more debugging but I've definitely had it lock up only with the same remote attached.

It happened to me 3 times for the first time today after probably shooting about 5000 frames since August 5th. I put the new firmware 0.43 on the MB IV Friday night. My a7R II has the original firmware. I was thinking it has something to do with the adapter because the only thing that has changed was the firmware update.
