Voigtlander Heliar Ultra Wide-Angle 12mm???

tonyreidsma

I have a paid gig which requires UWA or fisheye lenses. I don't like the idea of getting fisheye, so I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on this lens?LINK TO LENSI would use an adapter to my A7S.Voigtlander is launching native E mount lenses in the Spring, but I need to have the project done before then....Any other lenses you can think of would be helpful to know. Thanks

The Voigtlander 15mm version III is where you should look I would think.I don't for certain on the lens you referenced but fairly confident there are issues with it on the A7 series cameras.Don't know of anything wider than the Samyang/Rokinon 14mm that works well and is not fish eye.  That is a great lens but big so for your gig the 15 mm Voigtlander is likely better.I assume you feel the FE 16-35 is not wide enough?  Cause that is a great lens if not for your gig and best option for AF if that would help-online gallery at: www.MattReynoldsPhotography.com

I have the Rokinon APS-C 12mm and it works a treat on my a7rii. It's really sharp and a 15mm full frame equivolent. Fast, too, at f2. With such a wide lens it super easy to manually focus it, even at f2.Although I'm planning on getting the 14mm just to take advantage of the full frame sensor the 12 mm is just so much smaller, which may be better depending on your gig.

I found it to be good enough on my a7s, but only after a thin sensor filter conversion. I haven't used it on the A7ii on an unmodified sensor - not since also obtaining the 15/4.5iii. I agree with Matt that the CV 15/4.5iii is more of a sure bet for satisfaction if 15mm is wide enough for you.

Thanks Guys. Definitely need to decide if the 15 will work.

I have it attached using a metabones adapter to my A7rII; images are stunning!  I highly recommend this lens.

I used the voigtlander 12mm wih my previous A7S and it worked great together... no colour cast issues unlike with the A7, A7II and A7R. I use a Kipon Leica M to E mount adaptor. Some of my images took with the A7S and voigtlander 12mm can be found herehttp://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1255248/1126#13210195http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1255248/1112#13202661http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1255248/1065#13169389http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1255248/1037#13150352As mentioned above, the Voigtlander 15mm III is also a nice lens but I sold mine as I rarely used it after getting the 12mm

Just when I had my mind set on the rokinon now I'm leaning towards this one again. I don't want a fisheye but I think I need it for the panoramic tour to work well. Need to research more. Thanks

The Sony 10-18mm works on FF from 12mm-17mm this is well documented. Also, you put it in apsc mode it is a 15-27mm lens, so you get dual range. Its a rectilinear lens in native E mount so you don't need an adapter.Seems few people know this although its been written about lots of places.Brian Smith shows that this OSS lens does fine on A7x cameras, he shows images at each focal length to show coverage and vignettinghttp://briansmith.com/sony-a7r-10-18-e-mount-lens/I bought the lens after this.  Its fast focusing and has 4 stops IS with OSS rare for a UWA

Are you sure you need such a super wide angle lens for your project? Linear distortions are going to be enormous. Have you considered taking multiple shots with a more normal angel lens and then stitching?

Have you considered taking multiple shots with a more normal angel lens and then stitching?Because I've never done this type of project, I'm researching, but I travel soon and I need to get moving on this. I'll most likely get a couple lenses to cover things.Good question, and I wish I had an answer.

Then I strongly suggest you practice this at home BEFORE you go travel, especially if it is a paid gig.
