Can I mount Yongnuo YN 560 III on Sony A7?

asalembier

Hi John, i'm a little confused about triggers for the sony Alpha 7 camera.i own a Sony alpha 7, and search for a trigger that can remote the Yongnuo 560 III .i understand i need a transceiver, but i don't know which model to get? They apparantly only deliver a Nikon and a Canon version, am i correct? As i have a Sony Alpha 7 (with the new Multi Interface hot shoe), i really don't know what to order. i don't believe i need an adapter as the new hot shoe looks like the more standard hot shoe but would a Yongnuo transceiver for Canon or Nikon camera's work on my Sony A7 ?? Or is there any type on transceiver that would work? i'm not an electronica expert, so i'm not into modifying myself a transceiver.I hope you can help me with thisRegards,Arnaud

Since Yongnuo flashes are just universal "dumb" flashes, you can pretty much use any radio/wireless flash trigger. Search Ebay/Amazon for "wireless flash" and you'll come a ton priced anywhere from $10 and up.I bought thisgeneric onefor $14 and it came with 1 transmitter and 2 receivers and works perfect.

Although the YN 560 III built in radio receiver is backward compatible with the older YN RF-602 trigger, the RF-603 Mark II model is operationally superior in all aspects except physical size.i understand i need a transceiver, but i don't know which model to get? Flash wake-up purposes is reported to be the only reason for brand specific versions of the YN RF-603 Mark II trigger. As i have a Sony Alpha 7 (with the new Multi Interface hot shoe), i really don't know what to order. i don't believe i need an adapter as the new hot shoe looks like the more standard hot shoeThe new Sony MI hot shoe has the shape and center contact position of the ISO standard hot shoe.  No adapter is needed for manual flash gear.but would a Yongnuo transceiver for Canon or Nikon camera's work on my Sony A7 ??Either the Canon or Nikon model should work provided you have good contact since you are only using the center contact with the MI Sony shoe. I have not seen any posts saying whether the Canon or Nikon version of the YN RF-603 Mark II trigger was better to use on Sony.Or is there any type on transceiver that would work? i'm not an electronica expert, so i'm not into modifying myself a transceiver. The YN RF-603 Mark II does not require modification to work on a Sony.  That was the issue with the original version of the RF-603.  With the Mark II update YongNuo added a switch to force the transceiver to be in transmit mode.  You set the switch to "TX" for use in the Sony hot shoe.

Hi John... Thanks for your reply, so if i understand well, all i need to buy is a YN RF-603 mark II transceiver (from Canon or Nikon it doesn't matter) , and a YN 560 III and i'm ready to go for off-camera flash photography??

Hi Kaku... Thanks for your reply too. It's good to know now that the brand compatibility is not important and that it doesn't need to be a trigger specific for sony MI hot shoe. What i understood from John is that the trigger will use only the central point of the shoe and that it's common to all brands. I'll have a look on Ebay and try to find some good deals. As i never did flash photography before but would love to give a try to low-key portrait photography... I don't want to spend a fortune on something i'm not sure to do often. But giving a try can open may be some new horizons and discover a new exciting part of photography

Yes, that's correct. The YN RF-603 Mark IIs usually come in pairs for about $35 US. Not sure how available single units are.  Consider the 2nd unit as a backup.Another option you might be interested in for a transmitter is the soon to be availableYongNuo 560 TX transmitterwhich offers power level  and zoom setting control by group from the camera position in addition to triggering.   I and a lot of others have been waiting for the560 TX so expect it to be difficult to get.asalembier wrote:Hi John... For the image it looks perfect, but sony a7(in my case mkii) has a multi interface hot shoe adapter, but the yongnou (both flash and tx) has standard adapters. Did you use any adapter in between?

I understand that sony had a proprietary hot-shoe at their nex 3,5,7 and then made it a standard hot-shoe on newer models like the A7. Does this mean I can use Yongnuo YN 560 III without any converters?yes you can.Can i ask if you put some sort of hot shoe adapter in the middle. The reason i am asking is because i recently got the a7ii abd i am in search of using my old yongnuo flashes. Thanks
