However, I purchased the excellent little Zeiss ZM 85mm Tele-Tessar several years ago for use while hiking. The 85/4 is really good when stopped down a bit, albeit perhaps not quite as good as the Loxia--but it's much smaller and lighter, and that matters in my use. I do sometimes idly scroll around looking for used copies of the Loxia, though.

I also have a Astro modified A7 III dedicated for Astro/Milky Way.

A7C Zooms 2860 (came with the camera used to keep small)1655/2.8 (apsc)  (ridiculously good for 4k video, and takes a lush 4k photos).70350 (apsc) (Also used for video, sharp from frame to frame)Primes 20/1.8 (bought because of Mark Galer's recommendation, I don't get along with this focal length, but man is it handy when you are indoors and no flash)20/2.8 (smallest AF lens that Sony makes, and its good enough)50/1.2 GM (simply the best lens in the system, and I had to have it.)I have a multitude of other primes, and the 28/2 is quickly moving up, but so far the 20/2.8 really is the lens I was looking.

That's actually a pretty nice combo. I have the 50 APO and 21 CV 1.4. Been wanting to get the 35 APO but am kinda not too thrilled about its flare performance from what i've read about. Have you used it for sunrise/sunsets? I shoot often into the sun and am curious about the 35 apo and also how the loxia 25 is.

I recently update my whole lens kit, and will now carry in my bag:- 70-200f2.8 GMII + TC 1.4- 50f1.4 GM- 20f1.8 G- 16-35f4 GAdditionally, I have:- Zeiss Batis 85f1.8- Sony 135f1.8 GMShould a 16-35GMII that's better than mu 16-35f4 be released, I might sell the 16-35f4 G, 20f1.8 and 85f1.8 to get it, in order to simplify my gear, but for now, I carry my 4 lens kit almost everywhere, and it's not that heavy.

I shoot often into the sun and am curious about the 35 apo and also how the loxia 25 is.You might already have seen BastianK's comment on the 35 APO-Lanthar's performance with the sun in the frame, as in many sunset images:"I took many pictures with a strong light source in the frame without any issues. All in all I consider the performance solid, but not great."https://phillipreeve.net/blog/voigtlander-35mm-2-0-e-review/#Flare_resistanceI don't have many sunrise or sunset images with either the Voigtlander 35 or the Loxia 25. Both seem OK to me. In my use, the most important difference (besides the field of view!) is that the backgrounds are busier with the 35 than with either the Loxia or the Voigtlander 50.

I am really enjoying the new 20-70mm, but I am beginning to realize that I prefer the 28-200mm as my standard walk around lens. The 28-200mm is f2.8-f4 from 28mm-70mm…something I recently discovered. Also my need for wider than 28mm is not as great as my need for longer than 70mm is what it boils down to.Moreover, the 28-200mm constantly impresses me with its IQ at pretty much anywhere in its zoom range.I may return the 20-70mm and get the new 50/1.4 GM.Another factor for my decision is that I have the Sigma 16-28/2.8 and the Tamron 20-40/2.8 for wide angle and I sort of prefer their f2.8 and the smaller size and weight of the 20-40mm compared to the 20-70mm.

Could you please compare the tamron 28-200 and sony 20-70 at 28mm, 50mm and 70mm @ F4 &F8 and share the images here?I would also be interested in this comparison, especially because the 20-70 is said to be much sharper in the corners/edges.

Posted this thread in the Sony FF forum too.

Also my need for wider than 28mm is not as great as my need for longer than 70mm is what it boils down to.~f4.5 thru 100mm even IIRC? I think that's why a lot of people jumped on it from the 24-105 G even, one of the fastest superzooms out there as well as one of the better ones. I'm still tempted by it even tho I mostly care about the 50-200 range, heh. Moreover, the 28-200mm constantly impresses me with its IQ at pretty much anywhere in its zoom range.I may return the 20-70mm and get the new 50/1.4 GM.Another factor for my decision is that I have the Sigma 16-28/2.8 and the Tamron 20-40/2.8 for wide angle and I sort of prefer their f2.8 and the smaller size and weight of the 20-40mm compared to the 20-70mm.I love using my UWA as my walkabout and that's part of the reason.
