Sony 200-600mm Firmware Update Ver. 2

Tim Love

Has anyone updated there lens yet? Did it effect performance on any other camera bodies besides the a7rv which seems to be the main reason for update?https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/lenses-e-mount-lenses/sel200600g/downloads

I'm not that bothered about learning the language to fix a problem I probably don't have.

It seems the lens is fight the OIS or IBIS less. I just upgraded to the latest firmware on both body and lens and seems better.I will try to shoot some bird videos at 600mm to compare because before you needed a monopod to have a smooth video when standing still.

Updated yesterday and tested some BIF with my A7RIV.I have the feeling that the AF is quicker and more accurate.I focused with my camera on a very little flying bird at ~75m away. The bird then dived down really fast and the little green focus points stays on him all the time. Never seen that before with the A7RIV. Will keep an eye on this the next days. MfG L.E.

I shoot with an A7R4. I've seen plenty of instances online that speak of the R4 and the 200-600 not playing nice together. It has happened to me  once in a while as well. Images just looked soft. Not motion blur, not OOF. Just oddly 'soft' Took a couple of shots just now with the FW update, and they seem sharp and crisp:Could have sharpened this a bit more in C1!:

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't even realize there was a firmware update. I'll try it this weekend.

A heads up for those with Intel Macs. The procedure requires the installation of the Sony Camera Driver Installer. The main instructions cater to those with Apple Silicon machines and don't mention the Intel version, or at least I could not find it.I searched their site for the Intel version and it is there but you need to search separately for it.Other than that went OK although I still think it is a laborious procedure compared to Canon and Fuji who do it by copying the update to a memory card and installing from there. (But I don't think I am the first to moan about that).

GeffBourke

Updated and so far no issues at all with A1 and A9II.

Maybe wanting too hard for this to work, but any update that does something is nice. It looks like (or false positives) so will try it as well. I did ignore it earlier, but lets see now.

I tried again and downloaded the MacOS Intel driver. This time everything went just fine and one restart later I've updated my 24-105, 100-400 and 200-600 all without noticeable issues. Next, to try them out.

Is it easier to do with a PC running Microsoft than a Mac?Gary Payne

Both same results.better AF ackqisition

Today found your post (hard to find anyone commenting pros/cons re: the update with this body) and decided to give it a go. I did a simple before/after test with dim lighting in my basement with pictures on the wall, face detection and Human Eye turned on -- with one picture in particular the AF would lock on the face but NOT lock onto the eye in the dim light (repeatedly) before firmware update. Afterward it does lock onto the eye, consistently and repeatedly. So I see that as a good initial sign of improvement. Looking forward to giving it a go with BIF, etc. Thanks for posting your results!
