Today found your post (hard to find anyone commenting pros/cons re: the update with this body) and decided to give it a go. I did a simple before/after test with dim lighting in my basement with pictures on the wall, face detection and Human Eye turned on -- with one picture in particular the AF would lock on the face but NOT lock onto the eye in the dim light (repeatedly) before firmware update. Afterward it does lock onto the eye, consistently and repeatedly. So I see that as a good initial sign of improvement. Looking forward to giving it a go with BIF, etc. Thanks for posting your results!completely agreed and also my experiences - looks like the FW update has smoothed out the performance level.Thx for posting your experiences.

It seems the lens is fight the OIS or IBIS less. I just upgraded to the latest firmware on both body and lens and seems better.I will try to shoot some bird videos at 600mm to compare because before you needed a monopod to have a smooth video when standing still.I have the 200-600 and I wanted to shoot video, so I got a monopod for the first time. I guess I need a lot more practice, because I found it impossible to get a steady picture. Not sure how people manage it. Check out this test video I shot (the last 10 seconds has a surprise):https://youtu.be/oria7aGH7Ds

Tripod with a fluid video head, even a less expensive one, is essential for that in my view. Nice surprise your last 10 sec at the end though!

Has anyone noticed an improvement with the new Sony A7RV?Gary

I have a Sony A7 IV with the Sony 200-600mm and was wondering if I should update my firmware on the Lense.  Has anyone seen a difference after the upgrade with combo?  I really don't have any issues and if I do I am sure it is user related.  Just wondering if I should bother upgrading.  I have upgraded the camera but the Lense seems like a hassle and if there are not benefits, I don't know if I should upgrade.  I have the MAC Pro with the M1 chip.  Seems like this update if for the A7R IV.    Just wondering.  Thanks.

It seems to help a little bit, but it more seems to be more in sync with af if that makes sense. It still isn't the best OIS in a lens. So I would spare you the hassle.
