Nikon announces 85 1.2, Canon has one... Sony where is ours!?

SAR is reporting that one of his sources claimed a Sony manager told them the 85mm f1.2 GM is coming within 3 months. No idea if this is true but it lines up with what a Pro Photographer told me recently who has contacts in the industry that the lens is due sometime this Spring.

While I was wondering about a FE 85/1.2 GM as well this thread and the new smaller lighter  and sharper 50/1.4 GM got me wondering if Sony could do a 105/1.4 GM and a slight upgrade of the 20/1.8 to a 20/1.4 GM so we had f/1.4 GM at  20, 24, 35, 50, 85, and 105.Then give us new F/1.8 G lenses at 24, 35, 50, and 85 that all are built the same as the original 20/1.8 G. I don’t like that the 35/1.8, 55/1.8, and 85/1.8 are all ergonomically different. I personally like my family of lenses to share a common build approach and I think Sony has finally worked that out.

The 55mm f1.8 was made in collaboration with Zeiss so shares its design style with the 35 Distagon and Sonar, 50mm Planar and the Vario zooms. The 20mm f1.8 came much much later than the lenses you mention and Sony needs cheaper lenses for those on smaller budgets. Making G versions of FE lenses would increase the price. However Sony need to update the 50mm f1.8 to the level of the 35 and 85mm f1.8s.

Right now I am considering the i-series from Sigma as a 24+35+65-all-f2-kit, all the same ergonomics. But it is difficult to decide between the Sony 20/1.8 G, 24/1.4 GM and the Sigma 24/2 DG DN. 24mm would probably better fit to my demands, but the GM is more than required and therefor too expensive. A 24/1,8 G would be the best of all.An adequate G-series in between my 14 GM and the 135 GM would really be nice (maybe adding the new 50/1.4 GM), replacing the 35/2,8 ZA and 55/1,8 ZA.

My big heavy kit is GM based where I have, lenses like the 14, 24, 35, 50, 85, and 135. In my lighter travel kit I’m currently using the Sigma DG DN I Series Contemporary of the 24, 35, 65, 90.  I only have the one 20/1.8 G. Depending on what I’m shooting I might have I may have it replace a lens in either kit. I tried out the 50/2.5 G and 40/2.5 G but I plan to put those on sale. Just too slow for me. So the new 50/1.4 GM might be used.

Have you seen a thread or post where someone is complaining about this? If so can you provide a link to it?

I read it in some posts here and there that third party lenses might not be as reliable regarding AF accuracy. I might start a new thread, it is a bit OT here.
