Any idea when a updated FE 85mm f/1.2 GM is expected?

I don't want a big increase in size and/or price if they go with 1.2. 1.4 is good enough for me in the 85mm focal length. Autofocus speed and accuracy is my main interest. Also hope they maintain character, smooth transitions, bokeh and not just go for corner to corner sharpness.I would be fine with a 85/1.4 GM II if the could improve focus speed and accuracy to be best in class. Especially if it helps control size and weight. The Canon RF version is heavy.Agreed.I am not sure what the application is for 1.2 over 1.4 in an 85mm, other than bragging rights.Same applications people prefer the 50 F1.2 over the F1.4, it's not for light gathering, ask those who own both Sony 50 F1.2 and 50 1.4 or the Canon 85 F1.2 RF vs EF 85 F1.4 and see what people prefer. I own Canon 85 1.2L II and 50 F1.2, also the E-mount Sony 35GM and Sigma 35 F1.2, I like the Sigma 35 1.2 a lot more. i owned the 85 1.4GM before and I will buy the 1.2 right away.I'm right with you on this. I have the GM 35, but always prefer my Sigma 35mm f1.2. My Zony 50mm f1.4 never got a lot of use, but the new GM 50mm f1.2 might just be my new favorite lens. I'm 'chomping at the bit' to get an FE mount 85mm f1.2. I hope that becomes a reality, soon. If not, I might need to acquire an R5 and RF 85mm f1.2.Focal length affects DOF.  1.2 on a 35mm has much wider DOF than 1.2 on an 85mm.I have heard great things about the Canon RF85mm 1.2.  But I wonder if owners are always shooting it at 1.2 or leaving that for specialty shots.  The lens probably performs great at 1.4, 2.0, 2.8. etc..I am interested in a new Sony 85mm GM, but I don't want 1.2 if it costs $2,800 like the Canon RF.

It was why the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L was popular.DOF at 1.4 with an 85 is already very shallow. The appeal of 1.2 in an 85mm lens seems more mental desire to own 1.2 than visual improvement in the photo.Of course if the size, weight and cost is reasonable, I will buy the 1.2. LOL.https://www.slrlounge.com/canon-85mm-comparison/Some people want/like that extra umph going from 1.4 to 1.2I guess it depends on what people normally take photos of. I would be more interested to see real use photos vs. bokeh ball photos. I don't seek out scenery or position my subject to highlight bokeh. Its a portrait photographer thing, 35,50,85 are the most preferred focal lengths for indoor/outdoor photoshoots and fast ones help with the look. Most people don't care or can't tell if its a 1.2 or 1.8, they'll just 'ooh bokeh', its more to do with the photographer.

It’s a lense I would love to have even h though I currently own the 85/1.4 GM, 50/1.2 GM and 135/1.8 GM. I’ve tried out the Canon RF 85/1.2L but at 1195 GM it’s huge. The FE 135/1.8 is only 950gm. Would love to see a 105mm f/1.4 as an alternative.Short answer No, long answer there where rumours for some time for this fall but these definitely turned out not to be true, since then no rumours have emerged and I heard nothing from resellers either, the only lens I’m convinced about is the 16-35GM for the spring next year (could be delayed to later 2023) as that info comes from numerous resellers, there where never such info coming from those regarding the 85mm so it was probably just a made up rumour. That said I do think we will get it within 1-2 years, but really I think Sony has other lenses they will prioritise first like the 16-35GM and perhaps some more Hybrid more video oriented lenses.if you have any info can you please share. Thank you.No one has any truly reliable info we first tens to get info around the time lenses go into full production.

If you use the 85mm and included the surroundings, you have to stand further away and deal with obstacles between you and the subject.

Any mention of a 100mm f1.4 / f1.2?None100/1.4 is a fantasy lens, Sigma originally made it (105mm) to show that they could make special and amazing lenses and accepting what price that would come with that. Just as Sony made a special lens out of the 100mm.But It was 1.7kg lens and today it will probably still be about 1kg, Sony might be able to squeeze it right under otherwise I doubt they’ll make it. It might get lower but only by accepting wild distortion. Personally I have little interest in those overly fast short tele. You need to stand ridiculously far away for not having one eye in focus. I’m almost constantly at 2.8 or stopped even more down with 135mm of that reason.

Sure if you owned it you didn’t need a fast 135mm and maybe not an 85/1.2.that was why I’ve thought about wanting one instead of buying both an 85mm and 135mm. Would then carry the 50/1.2 and 105/1.4.

I think many will find it a hard sell, especially as many also have 85 lenses. If you have neither and really want one finding some middle ground in 105mm might be acceptable. However need to be excellent as 135mm traditionally are the best (affordable) lenses.

If one was available I would certainly give it a try. Of course they could always try to create a variant of the 70-200 at f/2 like Canon did with their RF 28-70/2L if size and weight really didn’t matter.

Domantas

Nice to know it may come soon. I just ordered great joy 85mm (first 85mm anamorphic). If I find the fl really nice I may grab this speherical autofofus one too for that extreme round 1.2 bokeh. I am weird but ai always like two completely different lenses on same fl. Like i have 16-35 gm and 20mm g. I mostly use gm but g i extremely useful during nughtime (which probably mean 24mm gm would be even nicer but I really do like the size and that 20mm is really nice for selfie).
