In Memoriam of members who have passed, before DPR shuts down.

Martin Ocando

One of the kindest moderators I’ve known. Last I heard from him was in May 24th 2016 when he told me he was going to be absent from the forum as he was going through a “procedure”, which he considered to be minor but he’d be sedated. He was already over 70 years old, so I can only guess that something bad happened. Never heard from him since. I really miss chatting with him. He had an amazing grasp of the forum and the state of its members at the short time we shared moderation, roughly a year or so.Tom filled his shoes very nicely and has been a true partner in moderation. I will really our interaction. Thankfully we plan to keep in touch by email.

He was an older black gentleman, perhaps a minister? He used to post lovely photos including his grandchildren and his walks. The golf course I think? He was always so positive and encouraging and never had a bad word to say about anyone! A true gentleman, and I'm pretty sure members made a tribute to him after he passed? I can almost see his face - unfortunately not his name.I hope someone remembers who I am talking about?Hi there,You might be thinking of B_Algood (Bill) on the old Panasonic forum. I joined in 2007 and he was there then. As you say, he was a really nice fellow, very encouraging and helpful. He worked as a salesman in a camera shop and used to shoot portraits of his customers. He enjoyed classic cars and as you mention, golf. He was greatly missed.Mike

It's nice to think that we can go back a long way to remember people who we miss and who made a positive impact on our daily lives. But yes, it certainly doesn't seem that long ago at all.Mike

What ever happened to Sailor Blue? He was an invaluable contributor to the Studio and Lighting Technique forum since 2010. Amazingly well-informed, patient and generous, and a clear writer. Hasn't posted in the past year.

It's a chance for members to share their memories and express their appreciation for the platform and the people who have made it what it is. Do you want to start a post there, too, like the one here for M43 community? In particular, I want to acknowledge the contributions of David Thorpe in the M43 forum. David was an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate member of the community, and his reviews and insights were greatly valued by many M43 enthusiasts. His passing was a significant loss for the community, and it's important that we take the time to remember and honor him. I especially enjoyed his no-nonsense, expert and, perhaps abovel all, extremely charming YouTube videos.I think that an in memoriam post in Open Talk would be a meaningful way to recognize and honor the contributions of those who have helped to make DPReview such a valuable resource for photographers around the world. Thanks to all. - MartinYes, One Eye Blind started a thread a Open Talk too.https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66965539

Nice to remember folks.  I used to post more, not as much as the 4/3 forum legends mentioned.  As others, really liked the posts from David, Hen3ry, and Bootstrap.  Tedolph and Tim's battles was something else - quite entertaining!  They got more and more heated until it literally blew up.  Tedolph disappeared - and then got reincarnated.  We had a lot of fun.  Those days are gone.Laszlo
