Wrong camera returned from Nikon Service Centre

What is the shutter count of the camera you sent in?  (You can get it by uploading a recent image from that camera to camerashuttercount.com).What is the shutter count of the camera they sent you?The differences might be useful for your argument. Also, many of the new D500's currently for sale are import models and Nikon won't warranty or repair them, so make sure you get a USA model.

Not certain he stated location of his service center. This may not be a Nikon USA issue

I am from the UK (I don't know why we spell it "centre" and not "center" either!)I have checked the shutter count. My own camera was 21613. This camera says 126 which is a total surprise. I have checked with a professional photographer friend and he agrees that the body does not look like a brand new camera, and pointed out some additional scuffs I hadn't noticed.Anyway, I will wait to hear from Nikon. Thank you all for your help. If nothing else, I have learned some valuable lessons.

Center and centre exemplify this confusion. Like many similar words, centre is the older term; it later became Americanized as center during a period of rapid linguistic evolution as the United States expanded its influence."

Very unusual feature for a DSLR.

Were the word to be spelled -ER in the UK or -RE in the USA then that would be incorrect according to localised regional usages of the languages.

Very unusual feature for a DSLR.It's not really like the mirrorless E shutters.  As far as I know, anyway.  Supposedly it is only meant to be used with MUP mode for preventing mirror and shutter "slap" vibration ... so, no mirror slap, AND, no shutter slap. When activated, it deactivates the sensor, opens the front curtain, and re-activates the sensor (turns on electronically) to begin exposure, the rear curtain closes to end exposure, completing the cycle.  It should be called "the electro-mechanical shutter option".Arnie

Leave an SD card in the slot with your photos on it that could be checked immediately upon return.2. Put a little identifying sticker on the end of the battery.Other suggestions? Why not to check a serial number?

Can't read through all the posts, but myview would be that Nikon owes you at least a refurbished D500 in as good or better condition than the one you sent in.  This should be a no-brainer for them.  Good luck.  I imagine they'll come through.

Jeep_Joseph

Make them get you a refurb D500, or see if they will upgrade you to something like an 850.  I have heard stories like one time a D4S being unrepaidable so they gave the owner a free refurb D5 in exchange

MK

Just stumbled on this as an interesting read.So after one month, what was the out come?  Or is it still in discussion?

Rambow

Or at least a refurb.
