A 14mm prime is needed from OMDS

Day Hiker

100mm is also well covered by zooms at f2.8, so a prime would need to be at least f2 if not even faster. I can't see a big market for such a lens.Hi Mark,Give me a 100mm f/2 Pro with the feathered bokeh and all the other goodness of the 45mm f/1.2 Pro and I raise my hand for purchase. Maybe that's a market of one? OK. At least it's a market.Or at least upgrade the 75mm f/1.8 to "Pro" status with pro styling, focus clutch, lens function button, and seriously enhanced AF speed.James

I know there is a PL 15 f1.7, but for those that like to keep Oly lenses on Oly cameras, and/ or get a true 28mm equiv. FL, I think a 14 could be quite popular. Priced a bit less than the PL 15 would help too for sales.I support M4/3 properly and buy both Panasonic and Olympus lenses. They are all pretty good.Remember the tears of woe when Olympus failed and sold the farm off to the usurper OMDS?Neglect Panasonic and they might also pull the plug.

This is related to how the two companies handle UV filtering in the optical path (lens vs. sensor). Search the forums for related posts.and/ or get a true 28mm equiv. OMDS dont. If Pana did a 14 f1.4 or f1.7, I would be quite interested.

But something between 125 and 150 at F2 that's a little smaller than the 40-150 F2.8 would be great. That gives it enough separation from the current lenes and ~300mm equivalent prime has a lot of history in photography.

Has to be weathered sealed. Has to be about the same size as the 20/1.4. If all my expectations i are met I will pre-order.Can either one of you give us an example of where lack of weather sealing prevented you from taking pictures with the 15mm f/1.7?Tedolph

+1 for a 75mm Pro version.

That would be a complete waste of technical and financial resources. The PL15 and P14 are well established and carry solid reputations. For what, so an Oly shooter has a lens with Oly written on it?

pannumon

Would this have been the lens? The lens was canceled probably because 10 years back Micro Four Thirds shooters wanted small and affordable lenses. They had totally missed the point of Micro Four Thirds. BUT. It only took a couple of years and large and expensive became the thing, just like it has always been in most of the other systems.

https://admiringlight.com/blog/thoughts-on-the-schneider-kreuznach-14mm-f2-0-super-angulon/Hmm. A price far in excess of either the Olympus 12mm f2 or the PL 15mm f1.7 was not going to fly. ISTR quite a lot of moaning about the price of the 12mm.Mark

I have never seen the information on that proposed lens before.

Guys I think you are just dreaming. There is no Olympus anymore. It's just the past. OM does specialize on wildlife + macro. So there will be no 14mm.Actually that's a main reason why I partly moved to Fujifilm. I do not see any bright future for Pen F II like cameras and new portrait, street lenses.Cheers

maybe you will get what you want, but with the lenses you listed, you have more a want than a need.

Tim Reidy Productions wrote:maybe you will get what you want, but with the lenses you listed, you have more a want than a need.Well I do need a compact, somewhat fast, semi wide... many people do... its a staple lens to have for low light together with a general purpose zoom. My PL 15 1.7 would go if I could get a weather sealed, high quality, 14mm f1.8 or f1.7 from OMDS or Panasonic... if that was available at the time, my need for it would have been fulfilled already. I tried the Pana 14 2.5 before getting the PL 15 1.7, and found it soft.A PL 10-25 or 8-18 does not replace a semi wide, compact and reasonably fast prime. So where is the "want" vs "need" ?Does anybody "need" anything more than a consumer kit zoom... millions would say nobody needs more than a mobile phone these days.Let's talk about the car parks full of cars worth high five figures. Does anybody "need" those? Or harbours full of boats worth more than a nice house. Thanks for your opinion. Tell me more about your lifestyle so I can comment on your needs vs wants with my opinion.
