It's only 10% more than the D700 at introduction. Put ~10 years worth of inflation in the equation and it's in fact cheaper.

I simply said to post the first photos, NOT trying to specify of what! After all, it's hard to photograph the unboxing of the camera with the SAME camera! But, mostly, I want to see the video of you dancing with joy upon its arrival!Sam

With the frame rate possibilities involved, and the build and ergonomics, yeah.Sam

My D810 has been such a joy to use, very dependable, comfortable to shoot with. Can't wait to use its successor that's even better

I find it a bit irritating that people are complaining about waiting so long for a camera that is available in a week or two or right away if one does a bit of digging.  But I'll get over it, lol!

My D810 has been such a joy to use, very dependable, comfortable to shoot with. Can't wait to use its successor that's even betterThierry,I bought a used one from a bag manufacturer, of all places, that was almost always, if not always, used indoors in a studio, and had well under 10k shots on it. I bought it as I typically shoot on forest trails under the tree canopy, and it was often pushing my D300 just a bit too hard and too far to get a decent action shot in those lighting conditions. The D700, having the same battery and grip, as well as almost the same layout of controls and such, but with about a stop better low-light performance, was a logical and reasonably priced choice. Now, I have the D500 as well as the D850, and I'm pretty good on gear. I wouldn't MIND having either a D4s or a D5, but both are out of my reach for the time being. I debated on the D4s when I bought the D850, but figured it would be a better choice, in a variety of ways and reasons. Now, in another six months or so, if I find a decent D4s at a decent price... Or after the D6 comes out, if I find a D5 at a decent price...Gotta allow the wallet to recover from the purchase of the D850 and the Tamron 24-70, though!Sam

It's just a fact of life.I wouldn't be so sure it can be had within 2 weeks right now even from a small shop unless you are very lucky.Have you checkedtoday's Nikon rumors front page

old_but_still_good

I ordered mine a month ago from B&H and still no shipping date.  No idea how long it will be.  Fortunately I don’t need it soon as my D800 still works great.

Steve Lee focus and light

I ordered mine 6 days ago in Bestbuy and got it today, so no complain here. I canceled my order with Amazon, it just sent email about ready in May/31.
